How to Lose Friends & Alienate People7
May 8, 2011
Granted it's predictable, mainstream, unoriginal and simple, horribly contrived at times with the rom-com element, cringefully acted with a dodgy script and I can fully appreciate why it received such terrible reviews. But even it's harshest critics will at least find themselves **** at it's querky and nostalgic references. Pegg has undoubtedly stuck to his strong suit in terms of his easily identifiable loser-character, but that's exactly what you go and see the film for. On the other hand, Megan Fox and Kirsten Dunst are the ultimate down-side to any film.

Where to begin. How do films like this actually succeed in this day and age? The acting makes you cringe. It follows a simple hollywood layout. It's predictable. And i ask you, what is this modern day obsession with a geeky persona being so 'cool'. It's mindnumming. Such a typical American film - designed for plebs and half-wits.

-__- I'm sorry this has got to be up there with my worst all time films. As usual Jack Black played HIMSELF in what was a cheesy, insipid 'comedy' with limited actors and shockingly bad CGI. Let's face it, all it had going for it was Jack Black's persona to boost profit at box office and a foxy bird. Hence my 1/10 user score. I enjoyed my M&M's more.

Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny7

A cult classic! With laugh-out-loud rock references, an incredbile cast and two men who play off eachother perfectly. The perfect comedy duo. I suppose the film was a little on the short side and its packed with continuity errors, but so what? The bottom line is - it's easily quotable and so funny!

I know it was overhyped an'all but i really enjoyed avatar, i must say. But i preferred it without the 3D. I don't think the film's only qualities are 3D and great CGI; i thought it was full of solid acting performances and James Horner did the film credit with a solid, iconic soundtrack. I thought the plot was good and didn't mind the script too much, but obviously nothing could completely live up to this amount of hype!

A tedious and unoriginal spectacle. Completely saturated with blindly complementary hype and build up but I'm afraid it didn't take the biscuit. Perhaps a film for ITV 4 in 5 years at 10 on a Wednesday night - but truly undeserving of mass takings at box office

Enemy at the Gates9

An epic war based film filled with drama, action and gore. Holds historical accuracy and value, and the acting is floorless. The production team deserves bags of credit; great picture, and an even better soundtrack - jam packed with all the necessary micro-elements such as realistic sound effects and compelling music.

I was surprised when I found out it was a comedy. Although it includes comic elements, I found it fairly moving. The viewer is taken on a real journey with the characters.

Although hardly publicised and fairly predictable, it is a film which you really get into. I'd never heard of it when I began watching it; but thoroughly enjoyable. But sad.

Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi9

I actually can't believe the critic rating is so low for this cult classic. There's a reason that the film kick started the biggest toy franchise in history. Truly unique and so quotable.
