Fantastic game. The story is my favorite out of the whole collection, and the gameplay (once you get enough spells and characters) is solid too. Some characters felt a little underdeveloped because of how late you get them, but the characters that you do have for the first two-thirds of the game were very impactful.

Love the improved job system. The job system alone makes this my favorite Final Fantasy gameplay-wise out of the whole collection. Final Fantasy IV & VI surpass it in terms of story in my opinion, but the story of this game is still solid in its own right.

Excellent story, memorable characters, solid gameplay. Love the character development Cecil and the rest of the party go through during the course of the game.

Would be much higher if the combat system wasn’t so tedious and painful to utilize. Also had to waste an extra 10-20 hours replaying the game to get some enemies and items I missed; hard to get everything in a single playthrough unless you use a guide. The story is a sizable improvement from FF1 though.

Rating would be higher if the game didn’t lag so much every time you do any actions in the Cult (bless followers, healing followers, rituals, etc.). The post-game is also really repetitive and it wasn’t really necessary to add imo, or at the very least could have reduced a lot of the grind to obtain the special followers and extra rewards to keep the game interesting. Otherwise the game is solid, combat is fun and the cult gameplay is fine.

Awful. Extremely repetitive and simplistic combat (mash 2 buttons and you win), the overworld is barren, and side quests are a joke to complete with mediocre rewards for finishing them. The retelling of DBZ’s story through its cutscenes is the game’s only saving grace, and even then watching the original anime would offer a much better experience than having to trudge this game’s poor excuse for gameplay, at least in my opinion from having watched DBZ in full.

An absolute classic. Carried me through the pandemic and I still occasionally go back to this game to unwind or when I have nothing else to play at the moment.
