Cubikolor

Cubikolor is 3D puzzle game where you match the colors of the sides and the platform to complete each level. It is a co-production between independent studios Fractal Box and Moving Player The Good Cubikolor takes a colorful, minimalistic approach to a familiar puzzle matching theme. The idea of the game is pretty straightforward. You are a cube that has colors on each of it's sides. You need to move the cube along the floor of the level and try to match the color on the cube with the color on the ground. When you match the colors, it will either activate something in the level (such as a platform), which will allow you to advance to the next part. The controls are somewhat easy to remember as you are mostly using your joystick to guide the cube in one direction or the other. Holding 'X' will restart the level from the beginning, the left and right trigger and bumpers are for zooming, the 'Y' button is for hints, and 'B' is used for the very helpful rewind function. I found the joystick responses to sometimes be finicky when moving the camera around, which caused accidental moves. The level layouts have a very clean look and feel to them which pairs very nicely with the ambient soundtrack as you make your way through "The System". Based on a predetermined par score, you are given a silver or gold medal if you fall within the earning criteria (you are scored on your time, total moves, and go-backs). The level menu is set up as letters ranging from "A" - "O" and within each letter, there are 10 levels for a total of 150 levels and two game modes for a grand total of 300 levels to master. Each letter opens a new set of increasingly difficult levels and sometimes awkwardly cute comments from the peanut gallery. Once you reach letter "D" the puzzles will start to pick up pace and start to challenge your memorization skills along with your patience. At this point in the game you will not only need to get the cube to rotate on to a specific color, but you you will need to start planning a few moves in advance in order to continue on. I honestly don't know if I would have continued on with playing if the go-back and hint features didn't exist. Even with these features, Cubikolor can prove to be a massively challenging game that will test the patience of even the coolest of cucumbers. Once you complete all 50 levels in a letter set (A-E, F-J, and K-O) you will be able to replay the levels in that set with the newly unlocked "Hardkore Mode". In this mode, there are added time and move limits (sometimes both!). If this mode doesn't push you over the edge of frustration, then you must have the patience of a saint. The Bad No visual controller layout No option to skip a level and return later The Achievements There is a total of 21 achievements and are a well balanced mix of earning specified amounts of each medal type, completing levels with constraints (time and move constraints), time reduction goals, and a few others for completing all of the levels. There is also a few cute surprise achievements that the developers added as a bit of fun. The Final Verdict If I had to describe Cubikolor to someone, I would tell them that it's basically a Rubik's Cube on a gameboard. The concept works really well and even though there was a couple of minor things I would like to see added, it didn't detract from my enjoyment of the game itself. The difficulty can, at times, be a bit daunting which is why I think a "skip for now" feature would give a break to the less puzzle inclined folks like myself. I managed to get through 42 levels before I got stuck and stepped away to write this review.

Fragments of Him

Fragments of Him is an emotionally engaging tale that makes you think about one of life's toughest topics. The death of a loved one. It's not something you think about all of the time, but it's definitely something that has crossed your mind here or there. Fragments of Him takes you through the life and death of the protagonist, Will, and explores the effects it had on those close to him. The controls and gameplay mechanics are very simple and take almost no time to figure out. Basically, you need to interact with different parts of each scene and in doing so, the scene and story will advance. The beauty of Fragments of Him isn't really in the gameplay, or even in the graphics, it's in the story and narration. Throughout the story, you observe the the movements and emotions that come from those that were the closest to Will. Fragments of Him does a wonderful job of pulling you close to these characters. I often felt myself so engrossed in the story that I truly felt like I was a part of the experience and not just and "observer". Even though I could sometimes predict the outcome of some of the scenarios, it didn't matter as I loved watching how everything would play out. The character animations/models are relatively simple, but by no means does this detract from the experience. It's kind of hard to elaborate in detail the specifics of the story without giving away key parts that should really be left for you to experience on your own. With that said, if you are a fan of Walking Simulators, well-written narratives, great stories, or if you are just simply looking for a great game that you can loose yourself in for a few hours, Fragments of Him will easily satisfy. The Bad Short The Achievements The review was done on the PC (Steam) version of the game and does not have any achievements :(. Looking at the Xbox Achievement list, they all appear to be story related so they will likely unlock naturally throughout story progression Final Verdict Fragments of Him does a really good job drawing you into the story and kept me emotionally invested throughout the whole story. I don't really have anything bad to say about it other than maybe the fact that it is short. The price is fair and the game plays well.. If you're looking for a great story and soundtrack, Fragments of Him will not disappoint you.

Coffin Dodgers

Coffin Dodgers is a racing game similar to Mario Kart in play style. The setup for the game is that the grim reaper goes to a retirement community looking for some old people to kill. The goal of the game is to finish high enough in each race to not be the one that meets death. The Good This is a very basic game, and unfortunately there is not a lot of good things to say about it. The main thing that is good about this game is that it is over quickly. You can finish the campaign in the game in an hour, but you will need to go through the set of races several times. Other than the game being easy and quick, the game doesn't have much going for it. The Bad The controls on the game are not good. You are driving a motorized kart at high speeds, but anything you touch besides cones or trashcans scattered on the course will stop **** your tracks. You are provided with power-ups, but any time you are hit or wipe out, your power-ups are gone. The music is also loud an annoying. On the later levels of each stage, there are zombies on the track for some reason, but the game doesn't really say why, and they feel out of place. The list for bad things in this game goes on and on. With more polish and better controls, this game could have been an OK budget title, but that of course would require a lower price point. The Achievements The highlight of the game, the easy achievements! All achievements can be earned in three to four hours tops. Basically go through the game once, trying to place as high as you can in each race, but don't worry too much about placing first every time. Upgrade your kart when you can with the various speed and engine upgrades, but don't waste your coins on the paint and other cosmetic changes. Use the powerups when you can, but the main goal is just to get through it. Don't place too low in a race, or you will have to start that set of races over again. Finish the game once, and you unlock death himself, the grim reaper. If you play through the campaign again as the grim reaper, you play with your upgraded kart, so the game becomes a breeze. Get first place in each race to unlock an achievement for all golds in each set of races, and continue to use power-ups as needed. When I completed the game the second time through, I had almost all of the power-up achievements unlocked, and my kart was only a few items away from being fully upgraded. I played through the races a third time, until my kart was upgraded, and I had all of power-up achievements. The final achievement cleanup is just hitting a skater and paperboy a certain number of times if you haven't unlocked it already, and playing a non-campaign objective game type once. After that, you are done and have an extra 1000 Gamerscore! Final Verdict This is not that good ****, but its major selling point is that it is extremely easy. It isn't the worst game I've ever played, but I have played many better ones. Achievement Addicts like myself will enjoy this game for the sweet sweet popping sound of achievements. Unless you desperately need Gamerscore, I would wait for a sale on this, because I don't think it is worth the price of admission.

GunWorld 2

User ScoreAchieveAddicts
May 14, 2016
The sequel no one asked for, to the game that nobody liked! GunWorld 2 is an action/platformer/RPG hybrid where the player must plant seeds, grow guns, and harvest some justice to protect GunWorld! The Good For those of you that are familiar with the original GunWorld, GunWorld 2 is a massive improvement. Saying that GunWorld 2 is an improvement is a lot considering the game is promoted by even it's developer as an unasked for, disliked game. GunWorld 2 boasts a ridiculous plot and equally ridiculous characters. You play as GunWorld's greatest GunMan, Dwayne. He is the only hope for the planet which is in risk of it's leader, President Eagle, being destroyed by The Extraction Faction. President Eagle is a wanted target simply for being too awesome and having a planet that is stronger than it's own good. Seriously, that's the plot. If you've played the original GunWorld, you will remember how frustrating the game was. Thankfully the, the difficultly and overall fairness of GunWorld 2 has been overhauled and is a much more enjoyable while still proving to be a good challenge. GunWorld 2 sticks to it's roots with a very familiar gameplay style and weapon system, but also brings a new and refreshing RPG element that compliments the game very well. Fans of the classics like Zelda, Mega Man, and others from that era will feel right at home as the homage paid to these titles is very prominent thought the game. Your main headquarters is the small town on the Eastern part of the overworld. For every boss that you defeat and capture you are rewarded with a GunSeed, which in-turn, unlocks one of seven new guns for you to use. The new guns are all purchasable in-town at the innocent looking replica of a lemonade stand which is managed by our appropriately named friend 'Gunther'. You can also purchase a few other handy items like 'Respawn Eagle' which allows you to respawn on the spot. Eventually you will also unlock armor items which can be purchased from the blacksmith who is also in town. All of these items are purchased using gold coins by dropped enemies when they die. Throughout your mission to destroy The Extraction Faction, you will make your way through a number of different enemies and levels. Most of them are relatively easy to beat, but they do prove to be a challenge as the game progress. I didn't have to get very far to find a few little **** that made me want to violently assault my controller. I've had a good time with story so far and I still have more to explore. Besides the Story Mode, there is also Old-School Mode and Level Rush. Old-School mode is exactly what it sounds like. A linear version of the game, with no RPG elements to it, which is what the original GunWorld is. You only get three lives, no saves or continues. Level Rush is similar, except the campaign is randomly ordered and you only have one life. This is great mode to play if you want to see levels and weapons that are further into the game that you haven't yet seen in Story Mode. The Bad Needs a game exit confirmation. I've accidentally exited the game several times not remembering which button was which and was in between checkpoints. Audible menu confirmations would be nice. Options menu? The Achievements For the most part, the achievement list is comprised of story-line and game mode achievements and aren't overly difficult. The full completion of the game will take a bit of patience, but is very much an obtainable task for the completionists out there. Final Verdict Other than a few graphical snags here and there and few UI improvements, I don't really have any directly negative things to say about GunWorld 2. I mean, the game defines itself by the fact that it doesn't take itself seriously. It has a fun soundtrack and you get a good amount of play time with Story Mode. Old-School and Level Rush are great additions that add replay value and punish the hell out of you a great additional challenge. The cheesy story-line works and the game is overall pretty fun to play. -THY WILL BE GUN-

Paranautical Activity

Paranautical Activity is a rougelike first-person shooter that I could best describe as a mix of Minecraft-style characters with a room structure like The Binding of Isaac. It was originally developed by Code Avarice but later sold to Digerati. The Good When I first started playing Paranutical Activity, I really didn't know what to expect. The first thing I noticed were the Minecraftian graphics. I have to admit, at first I was really apprehensive that I was going to like them, but they grew on me quickly. The game spends no time **** around and throws you right in the action which is exactly what I wanted. It was very easy to get accustomed to the controls and how everything worked even though that was basically no guidance at all. The map and the general layout of the HUD was done well also. I liked finding the shops on each floor, it kind of reminded me out the shops in the original Zelda games. The bosses are really random and often bizarre The Bad The music got really obnoxious after a short time. Thankfully the settings menu is very simple. The dungeons are randomized, but they don't really change that much. The Achievements I played Paranutical Activity for 9 hours and 16 minutes and managed to unlock 6 out of 45 of the achievements for a total of 120/1000 Gamerscore. Final Verdict Overall I had a good time playing Paranutical Activity and I think it's reasonably priced at $9.99

Shadow Complex Remastered

User ScoreAchieveAddicts
May 6, 2016
Shadow Complex Remastered, released May 3rd for Steam and PS4, and previously released for Xbox One, is true to the original, but is cleaned up with a new shiny coat of paint. While I don't think the 360 original looked bad at all, this version makes the most of the original assets, and releasing on different platforms allows a new generation of people to experience this great game. The Good For those that haven't played the game before, Shadow Complex Remastered is a Metroidvania style game, and starts with a couple out for a hike. The main character, Jason, discovers his girlfriend has been captured, because apparently they had stumbled upon a secret military base, and a plan to take over the American Government. Jason's main goal is to rescue his girlfriend, but the more he explores, he realizes he has to take action. As you traverse the map, finding secrets and hidden passages, you begin to unlock upgrades for your weaponry and abilities, in true Metroidvania fashion. The ultimate goal of the game, besides rescuing your girlfriend and saving the country, is to uncover 100% of the map, and find all hidden collectibles as you proceed through the story. The more health and weapon upgrades you find, the easier it will make your path to victory. The great thing about this game is that the action and set pieces all flow together so well that you feel like a hero. The epic confrontations with giant mechs, helicoptors, and heavily armed soldiers will keep you on your toes. Everything flows together well to blend a great action game, with a sense of adventure, all while letting you explore if you want. The Bad The story of the game is standard fare, and though it is based on an Orson Scott Card novel "Empire", it isn't very memorable. I wouldn't call the story '**** it isn't that great either. While the story fails, that isn't the games main focus, so I can let is slide. Characters could have been more fleshed out, but the way this game plays, with minimal cut scenes, that could change the pacing of the game, which I wouldn't want. Although the combat and set pieces in this game are well planned out, the choice of having this be a 2.5D game causes some issues with the shooting mechanics. Luckily the places where it causes issue don't pop up often, but it can get frustrating dying because the gun didn't shoot where you wanted it to. Checkpoints are provided often, so you never have far to go if you do die, which is nice. The other main issue I came across in this game were certain sections where it seemed the camera didn't follow as it should. When I needed to swim through a cavern, the camera would focus on the sediment at the bottom of the water pool, and I couldn't see myself. Again, this only happened a couple of times, and it didn't change the gameplay, once I figured out where I needed to go and orientated myself. The Achievements The achievements in this game are pretty good. You will get at least 15 achievements for completing the game and finding all of the collectibles. Even more will be unlocked if you kill enemies a certain way, get head-shots, etc. The skill required to complete this game is fairly high, as you will need to complete it in under 2 hours on any difficulty, and under 3 hours on Insane. There are also a few achievements for the minimalist, like completing the game with 4% of the stuff you should pick up. Because of this, it will require several playthroughs. Final Verdict Shadow Complex Remastered is a great game that is highly recommended, and although it shows its age in certain places, it is still one of the best games available today, and owners of any of the platforms available should play it, especially those that are fans of Metroidvania style games. Give it a shot, and you won't be disappointed. And if you played it previously on the 360, play it again for the Challenges and new achievements!

JumpJet Rex
7
User ScoreAchieveAddicts
May 6, 2016
JumpJet Rex is from TreeFortress Games, and published by Loot Interactive. It gets its basic gameplay from 8 and 16 bit platformers from years ago, but instead of just jumping, you are a dinosaur with jets for shoes. Apparently millions of years ago dinosaurs invented space travel. The story starts with Rex being told an Asteroid is heading toward earth, and him being a 'Dinonaut', he must travel into space to stop it. The Good The adventure mode in the game contains 40+ levels, with each one taking around a minute or less to complete. Some levels take longer, but each level has three objectives: Finish the level, don't die, and beat the level under part time. You can usually cruise through the level the first time through, to get to know the layout, then try again to not die, or complete it in under par time. Some experts may be able to do all three in one go, but once you obtain a star for something, you don't have to get it again. You traverse each level using a series of moves, and each move helps you complete the level in a speedy way. The basic move, the jump, propels you up using the jets on your shoes, this can be repeatedly pressed to get you where you need to go by pressing A. You can also press X to launch forward, which helps you navigate tight spaces, and quickly go through rings. Finally, you can hold Y, which will send you up as long as you are hold it. The combination of these moves, and the mastery of them is required to complete the levels and obtain the stars. You can go through the game by yourself, or with the help of a couch co-op partner. The best thing about co-op is that you don't die unless both of you get hit. When one player gets hit, a 5 second timer starts. As long as the other player doesn't get hit during that 5 seconds, both players return to normal. While in the 5 second cooldown, the hit player cannot go through the rings required to complete the level. After each set of 10 or so levels, there is a boss level. Just like any old school game, you need to learn the patterns, and what you need to do to beat the boss, then they are relatively easy to beat. Most of the bosses can be completed quickly, and they repeat the same two or three moves until their health bar is depleted. If you obtain all 3 stars on the boss levels, something special is unlocked. Along with the adventure mode, JumpJet Rex also includes a RageQuit mode, which only gives you 3 lives, and no checkpoints, and a speedrun mode, which is a condensed version of the game. These modes would be recommended to play only once you have completed adventure mode with all stars, so you are familiar with the levels. The Bad I don't have many complaints about this game, but it does have a big difficulty spike towards the end. You are also required to play through each level multiple times in order to unlock stars, because later levels are not unlocked unless you obtain a certain number of stars. The levels all start to bleed together toward the end of the game, as you are doing the same 3 objectives the entire game. At least the levels are short, but the variation in terrain is limited. The Achievements About half of the achievements in the game are either story related, or basic level objectives. This means the average player could unlock half of the achievements just bu completing the game on normal, and do some minor achievement cleanup on specific level objectives. The rest of the achievements are either tied to collectibles: obtaining all stars, coins, and hidden items, or are speedrun related. Most of the achievements seem doable with some practice, but all but the most dedicated players will most likely attempt them. Final Verdict JumpJet Rex is a fun game, but has no real story, but it doesn't really need one. You are a dinosaur in space trying to stop an asteroid...what more story can you expect? Couch co-op is nice to have, as most games these days leave it out. If you love platformers, you will enjoy this game, and if not, you may still like it anyway. I had fun going through the levels, but not sure I will ever be able to complete all of the achievements. At $9.99, this seems like a good deal, especially for those that like old school style games.

ZEN Pinball 2: Aliens Vs. Pinball
8
User ScoreAchieveAddicts
May 6, 2016
The Good The three new tables presented here are the same high quality that Zen has been making for years. They use original audio from the movies and game to bring you into each table, and it works great. Hearing the characters scream with dialogue from the movies and game makes you want to keep putting in more quarters start a new game each time you run out of balls. Each table has multiple missions to complete, and hidden areas that make standard tables inferior. I would love to see a real life table this complex. The Bad My only complaint, and this has been the case since the game was ported to the One, is that there is only one achievement per table, and each of the achievements are not something a beginner could do. I hope that for future tables they go back to 3 achievements per table, with varying degrees of difficulty. The Achievements With only one achievement per table, it may take players some time to unlock all three, as they require complex tasks, and require you to know your ramps and table locations. In the Aliens table, you must play on mission 3, Ulterior Motives, and defeat both Facehuggers. Luckily, you can enable mission select for the table, so as soon as you hit the mission marker you can select mission 3. Unfortunately, you only get one shot at it, and if you lose a ball, you will need to start the game over in order to select mission 3 again. The AvP table requires you to rank up. I wasn't able to unlock it during my playthroughs for my review, but it is probably the easiest of the 3. The final achievement is for performing 20 stealth takedowns on the Alien Isolation table, and I'm not sure what is required for this. I played each table for around an hour a piece, but wasn't able to unlock any achievements. With some practice, and maybe a guide, I can probably unlock them at a later point Final Verdict Other than the achievement complaint, these are solid tables for anyone that enjoys pinball, and especially for fans of the Alien franchise. I recommend this DLC and at $9.99, it is standard pricing for similar table packs. I look forward to the next high quality DLC from Zen Studios.

The music is easily the best feature followed closely by its humor. The controls and concept are very simple, so if you are looking for a game that you can easily pick up and put down, you won't be disappointed. At times it can be slow moving and frustrating when waiting for chances to make a move, but patience pays off. Oh, and there is a story line! There are a number of unexpected and hilarious turn-of-events that keep things interesting. The story is just as wacky as the concept, with a retro vibe to boot. Overall it provides a fun, but sometimes repetitive experience.
