Mr. Robot: Season 19
Jan 2, 2016
I really like this show. I didn't see Season 1 while on USA so I binged it on Amazon and it's very well done. The plot is slow but it isn't plodding. It leads you along with just the right amount of information before you are about to get bored, then it pops in a twist or just a needed "who's that?" question. Usually television shows either give you too much or too little in the first year to try and hook you, this is one show that was done in such a way that rewards the binge. As an example it took forever (to me it seems) for Slater to show up but when he did, it was timely and not in some way where he dominates the screen. The pacing was fantastic. Overall, if this show doesn't last six seasons, I be extremely surprised.

Extant: Season 29

Halle Berry is of course, very good in this show. If you've ever seen anything she's done, you won't be surprised. She runs the full gamut of emotion and pulls off the "Storm" vibe when she triggers her powers. The addition of JDM makes it two actors I really like. He's not being used as much to his full potential but I'm hoping Season 3 fixes that. The role of Julie is played well, if not servicable, and she's exactly the type of person you want to root for to die... but never seems to quite get there. The first season it irritated me but I realize it's by design. Ethan is played very well by the child actor and it's been awhile since I've seen a child or a teenage actor I didn't want to slap onscreen. I think the writing is pretty good, and they sometimes go off the rails with things but that's mainstream television in general so it's expected. The writing isn't as good as say, "Mr. Robot", but as long as it isn't as crazy as Under The Dome scripts, I'm happy. I really hope to see more of this show now that things have fleshed out among the characters, sides have been chosen but they REALLY REALLY need to get a good TAALR. Nailing that human role down is key to this becoming a show like Heroes longevity wise.

If you are bored this holiday season, you could watch this series on Amazon as I did and bore yourself even more. The main problem with the show is it's not that it has unbelievable moments like all shows do... it's that the entire show seems to be one unbelievable plot. Some shows you try and figure out if it's the writing or the acting that's bad; in this case both are equally guilty. The 'action' scenes mainly consist of Barbie beating everyone, bad guys leering in constantly to monologue then get guns, knives and keys kicked out of their hands.. at one point in Season 3, even Noree ****... learns Navy Seal tactics and with some help from Joe totally overwhelm a full grown adult man. This is one of the few shows where you hate yourself for watching after it's over because you realize you've been rooting for the good guys to die at every opportunity because of their stupidity, but want the bad guys win so the show would be over. Basically, it's a hate-watch show ready to go. I know art is subjective but I can't believe 'professional' critics wrote glowing reviews about this series. I didn't even realize it was CBS until it was over, it was so bad I thought it was one of SyFy channel's castoffs. I hate for my first review on this site to be bad but the good news is if you have Amazon Prime, it's free so that's something. I probably should have read the King story and left it at that because the premise sounded awesome.
