The Decameron is the stand-out comedy hit of the year so far and without a doubt the most fun I've had watching TV in a long, long time.

While it may be too theatrical for some tastes, The Decameron gets wittier and darker as it goes along, with death (corpses in carts, suppurating neck boils) never far away.

This is honestly such a good show. Hilarious but complicated characters living in an absurd, brutal world. They try to make meaning grappling with society, relationships, and grief; they try to have agency in a world where so much is out of our control. It's relevant to the human condition. It's funny. It's great.

I'm not sure why there's so much negativity around this show. It's what it said on the tin: a dark comedy. Personally I loved it and would recommend it.

One great thrill of Jordan’s lively, earthy, and hilarious Decameron is watching the spoiled discover that, for the filthy horde circling their oasis, they are the spoils.

It’s simply My Lady Jane + Love Island + White Lotus. And since it’s so busy trying to accomplish all three of those oeuvres at once—while also attempting to establish a cohesive pandemic narrative—it falls just a little shy of a success in any one category. It’s fun to glut yourself on, but it’s more an indulgence than a satisfying meal, and by the time you reach the end, it’s hard not to wish you (like the characters) had indulged a little less.

The Decameron isn't a bad show. It's just… fine. And with so much else now on offer, that's simply no longer good enough.

There are spurts of entertainment to be found, and the game cast tries their damnedest to marry the scene-to-scene mood swings. (Reynolds would be my MVP, with Hale and Jackson as co-runners-up.) Time, however, is not on their side. The 60-minute episodes feel like two (or more) half-hour scripts cobbled together.

There’s really no excuse for “The Decameron,” the new eight-part Netflix series. There were a number of ways it could have been done right, but it was done wrong. Terribly, ridiculously and pointlessly wrong.

I find this show to be a refreshing antidote to so many of the other period projects. An anti-Bridgerton right when we need it. The cast is great and boy do they embrace the limited series ethos. Characters can die! A lot of action in eight episodes! I love the actors speaking in their own accents rather than everybody straining every muscle to create something that doesn't remotely relate to 14th century Tuscan region. I recommend watching it and having some fun.

Generally, an excellent production. Acting A+++. Sets feel 'right' for a slightly theatrical feel. It has a bawdy romp culture which is about right for the 14th century genre of the likes of Chaucer and Boccaccio. Above all, it's pretty carefree and largely ithout crude, tedious WOKE-type preaching that pervades so much production these days. Social points are made but they're subtle and done with humour not outrage and lecturing. Pity we don't see more of this type of production.

What the actual fork were they thinking. Not a lot. Suffice it to say Boccaccio is rolling in his grave. Italians will be surprised to learn they are a happy blend of Africans and Indians and an Irish maid.

Started out OK. Became less so and then it went downhill. Such a wasted story. Boring and poorly acted.
