On balance it’s one of the most buoyant and joyous pieces of television I’ve experienced in years.

Not every moment of The Bear Season 4 is perfect (and it’s still most certainly not a comedy). But, with its message that you can’t save someone else until you save yourself, it might be the most honest one yet.

’The Bear’ season 4 brings us to the point in their journey where we finally start opening the floodgates to healing. All these characters have issues they are hiding from and battling against, and they each find natural, believable ways to start dealing with what has been hurting them for so long. It’s a beautifully emotional season that sets us up for a potential final season to follow. It’s was really refreshing to see everyone start facing their issues head on, with plenty of laughs, tears, and struggles along the way. ’The Bear’ season 4 gives us that emotional impact change and growth that we have been craving to see, bringing some real movement in these characters journeys as we head towards the end. There are still a handful of dream sequences and surreal interludes that seem to want to underscore the show’s deep psychological curiosity, and its unwillingness to be an easy watch. But after the slow-drip, languorous suffering of Season 3, it’s thrilling to see the characters and the action move so purposefully and gratifyingly forward.

Season 4 takes most of the story out of the kitchen and away from the action. This not only improves the pacing, but it helps to wrap up stories that can't organically come to a conclusion during a service.

Though we get glimpses of these characters pursuing their goals, there’s not enough of them knocking around together as a group.

It certainly feels like the narrative equivalent of a stretch meal, with too little protein and too many empty carbs. It’s almost comical how slowly the plot inches forward. .... It’s still a superlative hangout show studded with lovely, carefully observed moments.

Every exchange is a heart-to-heart, every character is constantly trying to impart something meaningful, everyone says what is on their mind. It’s as if they are in a massive immersive therapy session. As such, the script is too often dragged down into a steaming swamp of triteness. Some of it is downright guff.

I really don't understand the hate that this show gets. Season 4 was a definite return to form. The renewed focus on Syd, Richie and in a smaller way Marcus has brought this series to new heights. I hope that season 4 wasn't the last!

It was said this was supposedly its last season. So I went in enjoying it one last time, so I wasn';t gonna be too harsh on it until I heard its renewed because of its popularity, What worked for me : the characters, acting, feels very real and most of the times it feels improvised and the script is just there to guide them subtetly. if so, then amazing job to all actors. What didn't work for me: Stagnation, less serving of the food, I feel there's no little to no progession this season.

My patience for the Bear wore thin in season 3. The first two seasons felt like a masochistic love letter to a toxic industry, but it rang true to anyone who has worked in the industry. Season 4 in which all the success of previous seasons seems to have gone to Storer's head. A show that felt like a kid who smells their farts. The Eyo-focused episodes were great, as expected, but the rest of it felt largely pointless. This season honestly made me question whether I even liked the first two. It honestly irks me this show is considered a comedy. Its Emmy contemporaries (Shrinking, Hacks, The Studio) are far superior.

They doubled down on stagnation which is definitely a choice. the acting is still great but thats all it really is at this point.

oof. the downfall of The Bear needs to be studied. Each season is just slowly worse than the last, and I wasn't exactly high on the first season to begin with.
