This is a show that steeps us in the experience of living through history and demonstrates the vastness of ordinary lives and families like the Baeks, especially in the times when we know what lies in wait.

Un film care merge la suflet, atingand atat conceptul de supravietuire, dragoste si familie. Oare corectitudinea este intodeauna binevenita?

The setting and the cast and the multi-generational drama thrilled me. I love Lee Min Ho's acting skills so much.

Despite being a riveting adaptation of Min Jin Lee’s novel, there are few things that hold Pachinko back from being a perfect adaptation. The most glaring issue tends to be Solomon’s storyline and how it fits into the main narrative. ... Another issue is how the pacing seems in conflict with the story that’s being told. ... Still, Pachinko is a sweeping epic filled with fantastic performances and a captivating story of survival.

The series is so finely tuned that it proves quietly flooring the more it comes together. Pachinko is an experience that is painful, joyous, melancholy, and moving, a masterful tapestry with the power to endure over lifetimes.

Gorgeous and understated, these discreet yet unmissable connections also accrue between generations, and the show’s overlapping timelines develop their own sense of compelling, unified empathy.

It’s a vast, sumptuous, dynastic political TV series of the kind scarcely made any more, complete with swooning strings from Nico Muhly’s score.

While she [showrunner Soo Hugh] conjures moments of immense power, and of connection, throughout, “Pachinko” does not, finally, cohere. One yearns for the show that let its key moments sing without the at-times forced collisions between eras, ones that can keep viewers feeling both on the hook and in the dark.

Fave book since 2018. Had high expectations after reading all the critical rave reviews. **** far exceeds these expectations and now I know why critics were claiming masterpiece. The cinematography, opening credits, casting, music, acting, everything is outstanding! First time too where the characters, especially all three Sunja & Hansu, are even better than my imagination! I especially like the time switches as it highlights how some things have changed whilst others remain the same. Must watch TV!

An often ponderous costume drama which doesn't trust the audience to observe and draw its own conclusions. Like so much network TV, this one is more of demonstration of a story than actual one. Fabulous sets and costumes can't save this one from its own lumbering insistence on its own importance and the usual party line.
