Naked and Afraid has a forthright feel to it that borders on a psychological and physical study, even though participants remain with a production crew, unlike the grueling series Survivorman, which featured just one man with a camera.

One of my favorite shows, learning and enjoying all throughout. Would like more of Matt, he explains well, but overall it's competitive, exciting, funny and even motivating.

Like many reality shows 'reality' isn't such a big part of the show itself. Just finished episode one of season fourteen where Shanika a POC wins the challenge after the male of no colour gives up in such a hammy way the whole thing felt scripted to fit the new woke agenda. Shanika slowly ambles about and barely breaks a sweat, and being a large gal didn't have to eat anything for the 3 weeks except for some roots she cooked up like a soup. Chalk this one up to the progressive message and fake reality tv at its worst - 1 naked star

The experience looks very difficult, but also a little boring, which explains the need for the in-your-face title: “Filthy and Exhausted” just doesn’t have the same ring.

What ensues is pretty typical of the genre, but it’s still kind of a risible kick, if only for how seriously the show takes itself.

Even if all of their naughty bits weren't pixilated--it's still a bonanza for backside gazing, just saying--they soon become so grimy, gaunt and downright miserable as they starve and shiver for days on end that it's all about as arousing as a labor camp death march.

This might be more amusing if Shane and Kim were more expressive or interesting, but neither evinces much personality.
