SummaryNot to be confused with the 1995 CBS show of the same name, the family drama from Corinne Brinkerhoff is focused on The Hawthornes, who discover their recently deceased patriarch may have been behind several murders in the Boston area and one of them may have helped him.

Whodunit? After screening the first two episodes, I have no idea. But I'm engaged enough to keep watching to find out.

I'm hooked, wanting more. Very good mystery with hidden surprises. My fear is that the writers will not be able to keep the Silver Bells theme going without making it seem like they're string it out. The family drama is very good also but will the newest wear off. Good to have a show without all the on screen blood, sex, and excess bad language. Keep it going writers. For now I'll give it a 10.

Love it, much better than American Horror Stories. Is a thriller with out all the bloody mess...love The character of Lucas Buck and Caleb is wonderful...

The TV equivalent of a murder-mystery novel, the kind you can read in between swims and nods on the beach. You know it’s going to be predictable, illogical, and a little trashy, and you don’t mind if the book jacket gets wet or torn, and if the book got stolen you’d forget about it almost instantly, but still, you kind of want to find out who done it.

After a convincing opening episode, American Gothic turns soapier and more florid in Episode 2.

Gothic is either afraid of being too gothic or just doesn't know what gothic is. [24 Jun 2016, p.53]

American Gothic is about a bunch of good actors who got suckered into a really bad series.

American Gothic shows promise to go the distance. Each character has it's own story line which intertwines with each other. Excitement throughout the entire show. Great job writers.

This show hit the marked, love the twist and turns and the suspense. This show has to come back, to find out if the real Silver Bell Killer comes back for even more, and what about the newly elected Mayor and the dirty dealings she did to plot the murder of her mother, keep this show.

As a lightweight, summer "page-turner", it's fitting the bill. I love the female lead (from The Knick), and the oldest brother (from Banshee), is great. Not totally sold on the matriarch, but I'll give her some rope. The one character who almost single-handedly brings the story down is the "sick" kid who is obsessed with death, mutilating pets, etc. Erase that character from the story and I maybe give it a "9".

I liked the plot and the mystery around the family. They definitely have a lot of secrets. I think some of the characters are truly fascinating, starting with the younger one. But some others are just boring. A few individual plots are so cliché that makes me cringe. However, I am interested enough to keep watching. I hope the creators and writers know what they're doing and how to keep the episodes interesting and entertaining without losing it. A lot of mysteries shows simply lose their way into the episodes. I hope this one doesn't.

Feels like I'm watching an old episode of Dallas. With that whole rich family and "Who Shot JR" sort of theme. I was expecting something much darker story wise than that. :/
