- MojoOct 31, 2024There’s some very fine rock songs (Sally Was A Cop revisits the “Oh-oh-oh” singalong on Willie Mays Is Up At Bat from Temple Beautiful) and excellent ballads, from Americana closer It’s A Good Day To Be Alive to truly beautiful Red Sky Night. [Nov 2024, p.89]
- Oct 31, 2024It's fine work from a great songwriter who is following his passions while he can, and that makes it special.
- UncutOct 31, 2024An exploration of what common ground there might be between it and Prophet’s usual métier of deadpan country rock. It turns out to be substantial, as does this album, from the shuffling Colombiana of “Betty’s Song” to the drawling Tom Petty vibes of “Sally Was A Cop” to the near Glen Campbell-ish “Red Sky Night”. [Nov 2024, p.41]
- Classic Rock MagazineOct 31, 2024Utterly charming album, with Prophet’s ear for a keening melody still intact – the lovely Red Sky Night, the gentle rhythm of First Came The Thunder -and suffused with a lilting Latin charm. [Nov 2024, p.77]
- Nov 14, 2024For those listeners who have enjoyed one solid solo release after the next, including an excellent run in the 2010s, Chuck Prophet with ¿Qiensave? may take some adjustment; however, it proves to be a fruitful collaboration. Even if this is a one-off record, Wake the Dead offers plenty of quality that makes it worthwhile to listen.
