You Had to Be There: How the Toronto Godspell Ignited the Comedy Revolution, Spread Love & Overalls, and Created a Community That Changed the World (in a Canadian Kind of Way)

What is particularly joyous about “You Had to Be There” is the primal glee of watching wonderful, talented, and creative people find themselves and each other while putting on a show.

What it captures best is not a specific show but the more universal overheated feelings of being at the start of your artistic career and falling in love with performance. It’s a reminder that as ephemeral as theater can be, some aspects last forever.

You Had to Be There provides a chance to experience the echoes of that event. You can’t be there without a time machine, but you can feel it reverberate.
