When We First Met

This watered-down rom-com doesn't fully deliver but it's a diverting twist on the genre nonetheless.

Devine, like Adam Sandler, has hitched his cinematic wagon to Netflix, and they have done likewise. But as ready as the Jack Black comparison (musical, plump, tries too hard) might be, it’s only mean because it’s accurate.

Ultimately, no one could save the script by John Whittington, who relied so completely on his concept that he failed to write jokes or characters.

From the start, Whittington’s script lays everything out so schematically that there’s little reason to keep watching for the story.

To be fair, though, even if all three actors had brought their A game, the half-baked story behind When We First Met is so formulaic and so uninspired that it would still be a forgettable film.

Neither romantic nor comedic, When We First Met is almost too vapid to be aggravating. After watching it, you might be tempted to hunt down a time-traveling photo booth of your own so that you can undo your mistake. Luckily, this movie is so shallow you probably won’t even remember it after you wake up tomorrow

I was watching the movie with my parents and I understand why they did not like the movies that much; but for young adults and ex-Vine users, they will like the movie, having a good time, cringing, and some good laugh with Bach and the rest of the cast.

I might be biased because I really like the four leads in this, but I enjoyed this. The leads all share great chemistry, there's quite a few good laughs, and it has a big heart and the ending is sweet. No where near as bad as critics have been making it out to be.

"When We First Met" is a Netflix comedy done wrong: it features an annoying protagonist, a tiresome script with barely any new ideas and childish jokes no one will find funny.
