Mainly Bernie's is good old, knock-down slapstick with just the right dose of cruelty thrown in.

All cast members seem willing to make total fools of themselves for our delectation. A fine but futile gesture. The bad news is that even with such yeoman efforts, it's still impossible to drag one tired joke around for nearly two hours. Like Bernie, the movie ends up dead on its feet.

A classic comedy, that deserves a much better score. Just take a look at "modern" comedies and you'll know the difference. Solid 10.

A perfect movie for the kids when they are home sick and/or skipping a day in 8th grade. Trigger warning: some minor issues with necrophlilia.

Weekend at Bernie's is an unfettered but uninspired one-joke movie.

Weekend at Bernie’s makes two mistakes: It gives us a joke that isn’t very funny, and it expects the joke to carry an entire movie.

What we have here is a film with no respect for the laws of nature, the laws of man, or the intelligence of the viewer.

Classic comedy from the 80's, with unusual plot.
I watched it back in the days, when I was youger, and I find it very funny.
Watching It now...decades later...I find that his humor isn't stellar and it is a slow **** it does his job. Maybe it's targeted to younger viewers, that can appreciate it better. It's a classic movie for an holiday afteroon.
Those who were young in thes 80's and 90's will like it for Nostalgia (clothes, haircut, slang, places, **** so on) and yougers can have a genuine laugh, even if it is not the best

Charming 80s comedy with a talented cast elevating the limited screen play. Sadly the cinematography and production quality haven't aged too well and much of the drama is sacrificed in favour of a more upbeat tone. Despite all this it was hard not to love the slapstick comedy that serves to entertain throughout the film. Entertaining but limited.

When two employees at an insurance corporation discover a series of payments made for the same death, they take their findings to the CEO, Bernie Lomax who commends them for discovering the insurance fraud and invites them to his beach house for a weekend. Weekend at Bernie’s has become somewhat of a cult favourite over the years, and I’m sure even those that haven’t seen it will be familiar with the premise. To it’s credit it does at first manage to mine a few laughs out of what is essentially one joke, but stretched over an hour and a half it does start to become a little (no pun intended!) stale.

The creators of this movie cannot come to accept that jokes about dead bodies are almost never funny. You just kill a boss, and leave him lying there, while performing stunts on him like an action figure? That's not funny. It's gross. Get out of the theater before Bernie's body stinks up the whole building!
