Valkyrie

The movie works like a clock. A few minor quibbles aside (the casting of Hitler, for instance), Valkyrie is a highly intelligent and deeply engrossing historical drama and, frame for frame, the year's most suspenseful nail-biter.

A taut suspense flick for grown-ups.

Valkyrie just misses out on being a great film (it’s no Black Book), but it easily merits mention as a good one.

Tom Cruise starring in the fact-based story of a plot to kill Hitler by Nazi Col. Claus von Stauffenberg sounds like Oscar bait. It isn't. And the sooner you accept it, the more fun you'll have at this satisfying B movie.

As action movies go, Valkyrie is pretty short on action.

Valkyrie feels like another installment in the never-ending franchise -- not just the action-movie one, but the Tom Cruise one. Like the operation itself, it's a good idea -- just not well-executed.

If there are Nazis fighting other Nazis in a movie and it's still boring, something's gone wrong. Valkyrie has a coterie of problems, and represents a whole new front in Tom Cruise's public relations war, but first and foremost there's the tedium.

It's amusing to say that I got to know about this film while I was reading wikipedia about Tom Cruise movies which have grossed less than $100M in North America box office. I downloaded it, watched it and am proud that I watched this movie. It's a great piece of work. The best thing about this movie is that it is so interesting that you may not feel when 2 hours are over. I didn't realize how quickly time flew by. Director did a great job in making this story so much grasping and knowledgeable. This movie perfectly balanced the drama and thrill. The balancing is so proper that nothing really feels less or more. Also, what was good about this movie was that it stays to the point without any subplots or unnecessary drama. Brian Singer did an effective job at pulling off a historical thriller. Tom Cruise shines in a dramatic role which has been written very well. Rest of the cast also makes a mark and does exactly what is needed. I'd strongly recommend this movie to everyone, especially those who enjoy historical thrillers.

Pretty good film about failed assassination of ****, acting is solid though script is a bit off.

Tom Cruise is just really bad in this film and at points it verges on comedy. E.g The telephone call bits where it keeps being past on. We all know the story and yet there are no little details that are mildly interesting or exciting and after half an hour you can't wait until Cruise is put in front of that firing squad. Oh Dear Tom, Oh Dear.

Pretty terrible. The entire film is insanely boring until the last 20 minutes or so, Even then its not that good. The acting was ok but I expected far better. Overall it was very disapointing.
