I just had the opportunity of rewatching the slasher classic Urban Legend from 1998, and it was somewhat worth it. Movies were simpler back then, straightforward and predictable, but **** story follows some teens at an university where one seemingly random murder happens, but then a series of events leads Natalie and Paul to believe a serial killer is on the loose. It is your classic who/whydunit shameless and bare.Simplistic as it sounds, Urban Legend spanwed a franchise. Yup, on the same trend as I Know What You Did Last Summer — a nice book, by the way —, Urban Legend ended up spawning the Urban Legends series, so you know what to wait for here. Urban Legend is like Scream, but without trying to ethernalize a masked killer.Like most cult classics, this movie is funny and entertaining and mostly flawed, but you love to hate it. If you want a nostalgic slasher vibe, this one should be on your list.

I enjoy this film way more than I should. It came at a time when teen slashers were ruling the cinemas with Scream (1996), I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997) and Cherry Falls (1999). I just love this time for films, you know the teenage victims, cinematic camera and the worse of a person you are the sooner that you die. There may have been a mystery as to who the killer is but that didn’t matter, it was a simpler and more fun time. The pacing for this film is excellent, there aren’t any dull moments and the climax is riveting. A lot of this is down to the great production design and cinematography. The characters are memorable and the cast is good except for Alicia Witt in the lead role who is pretty wooden. My only gripe is that it is not as violent as I remembered. Very enjoyable slasher with a silly but fun premise.

Perfect trash slasher for the era, the characters and story is silly, the kills are just ok, the twist and final girl are average.

Another favorite of mine. I've watched this movie so many times that my VHS tape barely works any more. A killer is killing people by way of urban legends, brilliant! Lol

No sé por qué esta película tiene críticas tan negativas. El film es bastante entretenido y es muy similar a Scream o Cherry Falls, se me hizo bastante divertido. Si sos fan del género del slasher y el terror, te conviene verla. El comienzo ya con ese plot-twist es increíble, una escena excelente. La ambientación bien de los 90' en la universidad está muy bien lograda y las actuaciones también, a pesar del humor básico y horrendo que tiene, los personajes son bien carismáticos. Las escenas de suspenso también están bien ejecutadas, es una película que avanza bastante rápido y se pasa volando. Me encantó el simple hecho de que el asesino se base en asesinar por medio de las leyendas urbanas, reconocí un par en el film. Básicamente, en pocas palabras, es entretenida y hay actuaciones notables y un gran reparto (Jared Leto, Robert Englund, Rebecca Gayheart), un clásico de los 90' bastante infravalorado que ningún fan del género del terror/slasher puede perderse.

It's not the most entertaining or original film but with a solid cast, It's at least watchable but it does seem to drag a little bit with the near 2 hours run time.

The acting was average at best, the movie was completely unbelievable, the kills lacked in both gore and creativity and ultimately, the movie feels just like a lame attempt to cash in the popular slasher genre.

Urban Legend followed the success of Scream and the movie is a fun horror ride as well. The actors are well cast, there are decent scares and a clever plot. The movie was made for horror fans and nothing in the movie feels hokey or copied.

A great movie that any horror lover can miss.

Kids at University start getting bumped off, killings are like "Urban Legends", kids investigate, it would have worked if it hadn't been for you meddling kids. Live action Scooby Doo episode but the cartoon had better story lines. Usual cliched teen horror that came out after Scream in the late 90s that doesn't offer anything new or original. Saying that, I did get the killer wrong.
