Twins is not a great comedy - it's not up there with Reitman's "Ghostbusters" and DeVito is not as funny as he was in "Ruthless People" and "Wise Guys" - but it is an engaging entertainment with some big laughs and a sort of warm goofiness.

Twins starts with an overblown fairy-tale quality that seems as if it should work. But, by the finish, the movie collapses on the shoulders of the stars. It works because they both showed up and delivered the goods and kept their end of the deal. [9 Dec 1988, p.1]

Twins is fun yet very enjoyable, with Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito great chemistry, it's just funny and fun to see both of them, added with Preston and Webb delightful performance, Twins is a very good time.

Twins is a 1988 comedy but it does have the odd bit of action however it's all mainly purely comedy. Twins is an Ivan Reitman film which he directed in 1988 and stars Danny DeVito, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Kelly Preston, Chloe Webb, Marshall Bell, Nicolette Larson and many others..... Twins is about twin brothers of course which is no surprise, Julius (Schwarzenegger) finds out he has a brother and travels round the world to find him only to find out he's his twin brother but bares no resemblance but the twin brothers played by Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito set out to find their mother. Marnie Mason (Kelly Preston) takes an interest in Julius Benedict (Schwarzenegger) and Vincent Benedict (DeVito) is up to his neck in trouble with the Klane brothers and has a girlfriend played by Chloe Webb... Twins is mainly comedy but also had many romantic scenes, few scenes maybe unsuitable for kids but doesn't get explicit and it's a family comedy more than anything... There's bits of action and humour throughout and Kelly Preston is drop dead gorgeous and Twins is filled with amazing music. The acting is great and Schwarzenegger is so ridiculous at times it adds to the comedy and the chemistry between the actors especially Schwarzenegger and DeVito is dynamite. Check this excellent film out.

Shtick is what Twins is all about, but there's good shtick and bad shtick, and there's enough good shtick in Twins, the majority of it involving Arnold Schwarzenegger's exposure to modern U.S. mores, to keep the momentum going. [10 Dec 1988, p.C3]

A star vehicle from its onset, this peculiar, mediocre comedy strains to accommodate the talents of both Mutt and Jeff, Terminator and troll. It's a Frankensteinian thing, an unsettling combination of two-fisted beefcake and mean-spirited shtick.

There is a genuine sweetness in Reitman's work that balances the innate cruelty of much '80s film comedy. But this time the gags are too feeble to provide a counterweight and the film tips into the cute, benign and pointless. [9 Dec 1988, p.A]

The humour, when it comes, is on a par with Reitman's Ghosbusters, but the film feels, rather than the solid comedy it is, like a massive missed opportunity.

In Twins, which is supposed to be funny, the former Mr. Universe and pint-sized Danny DeVito play twins, the result of a genetic experiment that went awry. To the extent that Twins is carried by anybody, it is carried by Mr. DeVito. Mr. Schwarzenegger is dead weight. [9 Dec 1988, p.C18]

The story has a tendency to get on the tenuous side, but this is essentially a very enjoyable fish-out-of-water comedy. It is a one-joke concept but it does that rare thing, the whole film works. It is nicely filmed, the music is good, the direction is skillful, the film does move at a comfortable pace and the script has a lot of nice and funny touches. Beside these things some memorable scenes and the acting made me enjoy Twins even more. I especially loved Arnie's awkward attempt at romancing Kelly Preston, that was a real comedy highlight. Acting wise, both leads are on top form, Danny DeVito is hilarious as the dim-witted scuzzball and Arnie is endearing and handles the comedy well as the intelligent and naive genetically-engineered brother. The two teamed up again in Junior, that film wasn't as good or as entertaining, but I personally enjoyed it even with its problems. Twins for me will be the better film, because while it is one-joke and occasionally tenuous in terms of story(loved the concept I will admit and on the most part it did work very well) it is very enjoyable with great lead performances in particular. 8/10 Bethany Cox

Twins as a movie itself is only okay, but it produces one of Arnold's most enjoyable roles, so that's a plus. DeVito doesn't really add anything new, and relies on his previous roles to fill this one.

Twins is essentially one long running joke but DeVito and Schwarzenegger do a great job of selling it.

Mainstream and good feeling movie with some funny moments. But there are many unrealistic scenes, especially the action scenes. Good performance by Danny De Vito.
