An amiable and humorous fantasy-cum-Faery tale in the Gremlins mould... The whole thing is jogged along nicely by the cast (especially the excellent Moriarty, jigging around manically to his '60s records), and has exactly the right balance between child-like wonder and gentle self-parody.

Troll is a predictable, dim-witted premise executed for the most part with surprising style.

It's one of my personal favorite fantasy movie, it's a shame that it's overshadowed by it's sequel, this film is truly something else.

I have no idea what was going on in this film. All that I could understand was that this little girl was possessed by a troll who then turned people into other trolls. There was a witch too. The story was silly and the acting poor but the effects were acceptable and the comic-badness highly entertaining. The best bit though was the theme tune which I will be attempting to sing all day and won't leave my head for a long time. Worth a watch, especially with a group of friends for some mindless comical fun. I’m not looking forward to the sequel though.

A clunky, poorly executed shocker.

Troll has a knowing tone that's more smart-alecky than clever. And it hovers uncomfortably between comedy and horror, without ever landing decisively in either camp. The film is as funny as it gets in a sequence that has Sonny Bono pretending to be a great ladies' man.

The special effects, supervised by director John Buechler, who was the effects man on GHOULIES, are pretty poor, essentially slimy rubber creatures with a limited amount of movement and the seams from their molds clearly visible.

The one and only true Harry Potter – J.K. Rowling can go where the pepper grows. John Carl Buechler, the prestigious director of cinematic masterpieces like Friday the 13th Part VII and Ghoulies III, takes on a fantastical story: The Potters move into a new apartment, and everything seems great. Unfortunately, a troll lives in the basement, who gradually starts replacing the residents of the building. 🧌 Noah Hathaway, at the peak of his career, plays young Harry Potter Jr. and, just like in The NeverEnding Story, he has to defend the world from evil creatures. This time, though, he has to manage without a horse. And then we have Sonny Bono and a witch among the residents. The witch lives with a rather lively and musically talented toadstool and explains to young Harry what he must do to save his sister. Then, out of nowhere, the movie turns into a musical, the whole building becomes a jungle on the inside, and eventually Troll thankfully comes to an end.

Troll has the potential to be an intriguing horror entry, but its terrible acting, forced comedy and questionable plot choices make it lose all of its fairy magic.

80s cheeeeeeeeeeese. Yeah this wasn’t a good one, really dragged. I mean there was a couple funny moments but not nearly enough to recommend. Also the husband in the film is named Harry Potter so I mean yay for that, still **** though. 3/10 Jay x
