Whether Tiny Furniture is a mumblecore movie is an open question. It has many of the tell-tale signs of that ill-defined genre; although improvised dialogue, a mumblecore staple, is minimal.

The complementary tone of droll but freighted psychodrama she strikes in Tiny Furniture feels like a significant but precarious achievement. I feel a pinch of worry for her - as I did for Aura - looking into a future of Rudins and Apatows.

I really enjoyed this film. It was very entertaining, funny and smart. Probably not for your average "movie" watcher, so be warned. The relationships between the characters were fascinating to watch develop and dare I say "true to life". This film requires a couple hours of mind engagement, so if your not up to the investment then this film is probably not for you.

bigger than it accounts for.. Tiny Furniture 4 Out Of 5 Tiny Furniture is a character driven dramatic feature about an unbiased peek that an unstable girl seeks for on every tiny aspect of her life. The methodology that it has grasped in order to carry on a conversation, is so rare and pure which makes it immensely pleasing to encounter. Addition to that, the weaving and build-up of each sequence is projected in here that helps viewer see through the characters and easily resonate with them. The emotions aren't manipulated and requested to be drawn out from the viewers which are selective in here and this being aware of, the makers are free from any commercial aspect of it. The premise guides the younger audience in their own language with high society issues and yet the stakes never seem to go lower which often does in such genre. And as much as the feature lures in the younger generation through its theme, its core concept lies on meddling with something that is at a certain point is for older generation too. It is short on technical aspects like background score and production and costume design, although is rich on the camera work which is beautiful in here. Dunham; the writer-director, is at its finest with her explicit writing skills and brilliant execution skills that connects frame to frame with the audience. Her performance isn't loud but subtle, whose impact does hit the viewers and moves them accordingly. Awareness of keeping the practicality involved in each sequences (for example, stuttering before speaking and multiple failed attempts to put a definite point on table), layered writing, three dimensional characters, pragmatic conversations and metaphorical cinematography are the high points of the feature that ups the ante of the game and helps it enter the major league. Tiny Furniture is bigger than it accounts for and doesn't serve all its cards up front on the table but allows you to work for it.

This is a quirky little comedy, not a film that will change your view of reality or anything, but it's funny, wrenching and sharply observed, with a dispassion that suggests a real artist is at work.

A funny, affecting movie about growing up in the shadow of a formidable mom.

Tiny Furniture feels surprisingly assured, even elegant. There are those who will accuse Tiny Furniture of wildly inconsistent tonal shifts, and it is guilty of some, but I appreciated the way this movie kept upending my expectations.

Dunham has been justly praised for her determination in getting Tiny Furniture made, but the movie itself has been overpraised as a result.

Lena Dunham makes a 98-minute home video seem like 98 days of hard labor.

If I had to use just three adjectives to describe this film, I would use: real, refreshing, and real. Why twice? Because it's a totally relatable, darkly humorous story of a young human seeking an identity. The electrifying element of the movie, though, evolves as the movie progresses with the interpersonal relationships that Aura, the protagonist, makes or develops. I truly recommend watching this film. I am so sad I waited all the way until 2015 to watch it, five years after its release. An added bonus is experiencing the directorial, writing, acting debut of Lena Dunham (a true genius) and Jemima Kirke being wonderful. Do watch!

There are not a lot of films about the average girls, the ones who are not beautiful or brilliant, who get treated badly by men, and who don't know what to do with their lives - but here is one. This is low key, realistic cinema, focusing on a young woman who is just home from college and struggling to get a foothold in the world. She is overshadowed by her mother, a successful art photographer, and has to contend with her snappy sister. In addition, she needs a job and a plan for the future, and she wants to get together with a guy (or two). Our heroine Aura has her flaws. For example, even as she is used as free room and board by a show biz dreamer (who is usually shown holding a book by Woody Allen, clearly a bad sign) and as a quickie lay by a hipster, she callously disappoints her best friend from college. This is very much a young woman's movie, focusing on the ladies and their conflicts and desires. There is a subtle humor in many of the scenes, which is a strong point imo. The story reaches an end more than a conclusion, and we are left feeling uncertain of how things will go for Aura in the long run - but that is often the way in real life.

After reading the reviews, I expected something more interesting. Although the camera work and editing were good, I found the characters hard to believe, even though the director/star's mother and sister played her mother and sister.

After reading several reviews, noticing the unusual amount of praise being heaped upon this film, I eagerly seized my first chance to see it. I can honestly say that I am flabbergasted that this film is being so well received. Instead of a being a movie that "... is full, assured and extremely wry." as Michael Phillips wrote, the film truly is a loathsome exercise in self indulgence. Lena Dunham's screenplay has all the bite and wit of an episode of "Days of Our Lives". When the rare occasion arises to show the audience a moment of true insight into the life of a frustrated youth stranded in post-grad limbo, it is dashed instantly by poor dialogue and unbelievable interactions with the director/stars actual family members. With all the independent films out there struggling to find an audience and distribution it is a shame to see this mess of a film reared its ugly head. A completely unsatisfying and frustrating 98 minutes.

I'm a fan of the tv serie "Girls" but I found this movie terrible. There is no story, things happen without no reason. It's a story surely based on Lena Dunham's life, since she is from NYC, graduated in Ohio and has a mom who is a photographer. LAME! The protagonist of this movie is a spoiled kid who plays to be special and independent with mommy's money. I'm upset also because the critics say this movie describes our generation...seriously?What a waste of time!
