Chicago Sun-Times
Apart from the other good things in Tightrope, I admire it for taking chances; Clint Eastwood can get rich making Dirty Harry movies, but he continues to change and experiment, and that makes him the most interesting of the box-office megastars.

Variety
Action is well-handled, as Tuggle demonstrates ample storytelling talent and draws a multitude of nuances from his cast.

Time Out
A film about desire and its control is hardly what one might expect, but then Eastwood has always been Hollywood's most experimental star. And he's still one of the best.

The Globe and Mail (Toronto)
There are two ways to look at Tightrope: as a Clint Eastwood Hollywood vehicle, or as a world-class movie that deserves to be judged with the best. By the first standard, Tightrope is an exceptionally realized thriller; by the second, it is an interesting failure, a movie that loses its nerve and resolves its contradictions in the slam-bang heroics of formula moviemaking. Washington Post
There isn't much conceptual or stylistic integrity in Tightrope. It's calculated to function at the most expedient and spurious levels of nightmarish artifice. [17 Aug 1984, p.D1]

TV Guide Magazine
Bruce Surtees' dark, moody cinematography is typically masterful, but its translation to video leaves some scenes a bit murky.

The New Yorker
Tuggle keeps whomping us on the skull with good-evil symbolism, but the movie has no more depth than the usual exploitation film in which pretty girls are knocked off.

How is this not super entertaining? 'Tightrope' should have all the ingredients to make the viewer be on the edge of their seat, and yet I really didn't care much for it. Clint Eastwood, who apparently took over unofficially as director from Richard Tuggle during filming, gives a solid performance and the bond with his character's children is cute. However, the story just didn't do anything for me. It's not particularly unnerving, despite a dark on paper story, and it's rather predictable - the villain... well, the villain I've already forgotten about and I only finished watching about an hour ago. Not terrible, but not good.

Clint Eastwood stars in this drama kind of mystery type thriller from 1984 alongside Dan Hedaya. It says on Google on IMDB that Tightrope is about a serial rapist killer but I saw no evidence to suggest he actually **** any of the women he slayed or maybe I missed that part however I've seen this movie many times and nothing suggests to me they were ****. However Clint Eastwood is a father to two adorable blonde girls, one looks about 4-5 years old (Jenny Beck) and some annoying woman who does yoga classes or something stupid or self defense classes regarding strangers joins Clint Eastwood, they even have dinner together. The lady in question is Genevieve Bujold but whatever her role was is irrelevant and I'm probably wrong about the yoga but she does do some exercises in the movie along with Eastwood who's lifting weights or something. After the killer kills each woman Eastwood see's each gruesome crimescene including a woman in a pool or jacuzzi which is bloody. At the end of the movie the killer targets Eastwood's home and leaves a few surprises and even tries to strangle Genevieve Bujold but sadly fails because I don't think she fits in well to the movie at all. Her character was totally unnecessary for me. At the end Clint Eastwood gives a on foot chase and the killer dies on a traintrack or something. And there's this sexy blonde chick who gets killed by the killer who **** on lollipops and has ribbons lol. Overall a silly film which isn't very entertaining and even the suspense doesn't really save it and Eastwood gives a good performance but is neutralised because of Genevieve Bujold's horrible character in the movie. The story and the gore could of been so much more violent, gruesome and entertaining and a few characters are annoying so should of been removed so overall a disappointing movie and horrible directing but not the worst movie ever made.
