Porter and Souza together, in this film, are using his images as a reminder that a true leader can bring more than just relief from a chaotic time, and that the best leaders have always had a deep and measured well of compassion.

What it does have in happy excess is Souza’s affable presence, and his remarkable trove of images.

The Way I See It tells Souza’s remarkable story in straightforward and effective fashion, as even Souza himself seems surprised at the turn his life has taken.

What’s best about the documentary is all that Obama sun. It’s hard to come by these days, even in retrospect. The shade, however, and what occasions it, is all too available.

Pete Souza's perspective is showcased here in this grounded and mostly-well-executed documentary on his political photography that becomes an examination of the role of a US President, and of Souza's move into activism as he is left shocked by what he is seeing post-Obama...I had some problems with what seemed to me inappropriate and painfully-literal musical choices to accompany some of the montages, but his photography is excellent and is well-presented and I am thoroughly glad to have seen it
