The Thin Man Goes Home

Based on the characterizations originally created by Dashiell Hammett, the story emerges as a neatly-fashioned whodunit. Richard Thorpe paces the plot nicely, overcoming, before too long, the hurdles of a rather slow opening.

Though this film is filled with mystery and murder, what makes it stand out is that it is the first Thin Man film to explore Nick's background. While the previous films typically connected to Nora and her parentage, this is the first that sees where Nick Charles came from.

This came late in the series but it's still fairly cheerful.

The film was a big hit at the box office, but, although the series would produce one more episode, the fizz was definitely gone.
