An exceptionally well-written script, full of unexpected turns and clever reversals, and a trio of deft actors in the principal roles.

Best of all, in this movie about high school boys, the high school boys sound and look quite authentic (Paul Dano and Chris Marquette are outstanding in this regard), not watered down as would be the norm.

The film's lack of focus leaves most, if not all, of the characters just a hair less developed than they should have been; the plot holes just a bit more conspicuous than they might have been; and the ending just a touch less poignant than it could have been.

A tickle-and-tease teen sex comedy that plays like a late-night channel-surf through soft-core sitcoms, "American Pie" wannabes and '80s Brat Pack romances.

Begins with the same deathless question that has bedeviled generations of teenagers: how to fill the space allotted to graduating seniors for memories and shout-outs at the back of their yearbook?

This comedy is an ill-fated attempt to remake "Risky Business" (1983) for the 21st century, complete with a wind-chimey score, the hero posing in his underpants, and a cynical happy ending.

This is a dishonest, quease-inducing "comedy" that had me feeling uneasy and then unclean. Who in the world read this script and thought it was acceptable?

The best movie I have ever seen! So heart touching,warming and honestly I don’t have enough words to describe it! If I can choose just one movie that I can call a masterpiece in this world,it will be “The girl next door” (2004)! I am literally in love… I can’t understand why this movie is so underrated,trust me,you need to watch it and when it touches you so deeply,just like me,share with everyone,so we can hopefully have a sequel️This movie deserves to be the most popular movie ever!Thank you Elisha Curtbert, Emile Hirsch, all the cast, director Luke Greenfield and all the people developed to this masterpiece, you guys deserve the world! The Girl Next Door is diverting entertainment, keeping your attention for only as long as you want to watch. The final third is relieving, as this movie started turning into a profane, uneasy porno. Thank god for the ending.

D’un côté, c’est presque aussi débilement con qu’un American Pie (!)… et d’un autre, ça emprunte sans vergogne à un certain Risky Business et à cet égard le personnage d’Olyphant est le plus marrant du lot (comme pouvait l’être Pantoliano dans RB, justement !). Elisha fait la (délicieuse) pouffe de service et on rince tout ça avec une fin gnangnan bien comme il faut -enfin… « bien », façon de parler. On reste en dessous de la ceinture sans atteindre les bas fonds de ce sous-genre (la comédie ado-kikoololol), ce qui en soi n’est pas bien brillant, on en conviendra. Cela reste cependant… encore tout à fait regardable, contre toute attente. Mais bon.

The Girl Next Door is a romantic comedy from the 2000s with a unique plot – unfortunately, uniquely bad. The film is mediocre and shallow from beginning to end. The attempted humor feels forced and relies heavily on tired clichés. It was genuinely difficult to finish the movie, as it lacked any real depth, message, or emotional core. Many scenes were so poorly executed that they came across as unintentionally funny. My advice: skip this one.
