The animation is not overcooked. It manages to swerve clichés, despite being full of heartwarming messages that, in the wrong hands, could meander into mawkishness.

Fans of Mackesy’s book will be utterly delighted to see that the hand-drawn illustrations translate beautifully to the screen without losing any of its neat-yet-messy aesthetic. Because the lines are literally pulled from the pages of the detailed original work, the movie feels less like a short film with a progressing story and more like a moving book.

Un gran historia para tan poco tiempo, es sencilla, cautivadora y con un mensaje claro del significado del hogar.
Resalta la gran inventiva del diseño que se maneja a lo largo del cortometraje y la riqueza de su ambientación. Condición para verla: Volver a pensar como un niño y dejarse llevar por una animació fluída y amigable

The animation (which owes a debt to Winnie-the-Pooh and The Little Prince) is gorgeous, bringing Mackesy’s ink and watercolour drawings to life. Tuning in does allow you to switch off from the world for half an hour. And if watching it feels like drowning in a vat of golden syrup – well, don’t we all overdose on sweet things at Christmas?

Ao mesmo tempo que é genuinamente lindo, e falo aqui tanto da mensagem quanto da estética mesmo, comtraços delicados mas que conseguem transmitir a emoção dos seus personagens, também é cheio de clichês de livros de autoajuda. Amizade e busca pelo amor, num roteiro simples e idílico. É um conto de fadas num ambiente com neve e personagens fofos, feito para esquecer da realidade por meia hora, mas que não sobrevivem para além daquele espaço.

I wouldn’t be surprised if this won the animated short Oscar. This is the stuff that moves and touches people. As for me, I feel like the four characters are stronger than the film itself, which is just a pretty sweet one and not much else.
