Sonic the Hedgehog

The little blue alien who can sprint quicker than the speed of light has ironically benefited from slowing it down, taking a pit stop to retool and emerge this month as a total crowd-pleaser.

With the energy of a Saturday morning cartoon that comes and goes, Fowler’s movie entertains and sneaks in a message about feeling sad, alone, and unmoored. It’s not for longtime Sonic fans, but it’s guaranteed to be someone’s nostalgic favorite in the year 2038.

The movie was partially shot in beautiful British Columbia. And Carrey brings a madcap mashup of his previous avatars to this turn as Dr. Robotnik.

The movie’s real joy, if there is any, lies with Carrey fully embracing his ’90s rubberface days. Director Jeff Fowler makes the right decision by letting Carrey’s signature madness loose on such a vanilla scoop of family entertainment.

If the rest of Sonic the Hedgehog were pitched at Carrey’s energy level, it could at least be distracting. But for such a short movie (it runs 99 minutes with extensive credits), and especially for one about a super-speedy fellow, it never builds momentum.

Throughout, any and all subtext is buried under the weight of Jim Carrey’s mugging.

This wasn’t a movie, it was a boardroom meeting with some poor hapless dreamer strapped to the “directed by” credit like a keelhauled sailor punished for his idealism.

Funny sonic the hedgehog movie and Jim carrey is the best if you like sonic or Jim carrey watch

First sonic movie is not a good movie. It could be worse, but at least it was entertainment.

It was a pretty good movie. A good plot and good characters. Except there were only two characters from the original games, Sonic and Eggman. As of the time when it came out, yes it was a good movie. But it is just embarrassing when you compare it to its two sequels.

The film constantly feels uncomfortable with itself and would rather be a dumb silly buddy-buddy film (on Planet Earth with so-and-so…) than fully embrace its video game legacy.

As an adaptation it offers very little to a Sonic fan, there are none are any outstanding creative visual effects or Sonic's characteristic "cool" attitude. Jim Carrey goes all out as Eggman and i think is the only enjoyable part of the movie. Its a made-by-comitee movie with a Sonic twist.
