The flick, based on Hoover’s best-selling novel, lays it on thick alongside a lacking narrative and cringey dialogue. On the plus side, the young acting talent and a welcome lightheartedness will keep the eye-rolling to a minimum.

The best that can be said about the film is that The Fault In Our Stars director Josh Boone, well-versed with the teen weepy, sometimes approaches the schlock with a bit of self-deflating slyness—something more attuned to the audience’s eyerolls and the cast’s barely-hidden smirks than to the serious source material.

I really loved the story. I could relate to Morgan and Jonah’s story now. Made me teary. Blend of feelings and some humor in the movie.

It’s formulaic and predictable, with goofy writing and clumsy editing. The saving grace is the actors, who manage to perform even the most ridiculous lines with a straight face.

Josh Boone’s adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s “Regretting You” is a romantic drama with big emotions and plenty of both romance and drama. But too much of a good thing can be a bad thing, and in the case of “Regretting You,” the narrative buckles under the number of overblown emotional scenes and the commercial interruptions for product placements.

Personagens rasos, ritmo monótono. Os personagens até são bem construídos, mas de uma superficialidade impressionante. O que mais me chateia é o moralismo (sabemos que um personagem está fazendo algo errado por fumar maconha, e algo certo quando resolve estudar, e por aí vai). Com muitos lugares comuns, de câncer a fidelidades discutidas num nível bem de amor romântico, os acontecimentos vão ocorrendo sem muita emoção, dada a dificuldade da direção em sair do piegas. Esperava mais para algo tão aclamado.
