In Mayer’s assured hands, a drama that could easily have become schematic instead pulses with urgency, longing and raw feeling, morphing smoothly in its final third into a lean thriller.

It’s one of the most powerful films about the Arab-Israeli conflict that has ever been attempted on the screen.

The suspenseful love story Out in the Dark isn't a political film by any stretch, but the intrigue and prejudices of the Arab-Israeli conflict certainly fuel the romance and thrills of this entertaining, taut movie.

Even though the plot defies credibility at several points, Out in the Dark is gripping.

Time Out
About 45 minutes in, the film’s uneasy détente between subtlety and movie machinery fails outright, as heretofore shown-not-told themes are spelled out — “You forget where you live!” yell family members on both sides — and the paramours try to outrun violence and structural contrivance.

A formidably engaging **** output from Israel, my second entry into this particular scenario after Haim Tabakman’s EYES WIDE OPEN (2009, 6/10). OUT IN THE DARK is director Michael Mayer’s debut feature, and he co-writes the script of an arresting drama wrestles with coming-out, domestic conflict, political witch-hunt, social discrimination against homosexuality with appalling atrocity. It touches on many thorny and grim issues of the facts-of-life in the middle east (perceptively chooses Palestine and Israel, the two adjacent foes, for their utter incompatibility in politics and religions, whereas love can conquer these all), tellingly and touchingly eulogises an ode to the true love’s indestructible strength albeit a gloomy future is probably anticipating for the star-crossed lovers Nimr (Jacob), a Palestinian student and Roy (Aloni), a young lawyer from Israel. continue reading my review on my blog, google: cinema omnivore, thanks

Yes a different romance, but is just love, there aren't amazing moments in this film, maybe isn't the perfect gay movie but is a good one............
