Junun is Paul Thomas Anderson at his most laid back. Not bothering with instructive context, the picture finds him absorbing the energy of the musicians through their instruments and personas. A scrappy film that never feels precious about itself or its subject matter.

I'm glad some musicians celebrate life and comradeship in the way portrayed in Junun. Production-wise every aspect is of impressive quality. The compositions both catchy, creative and exotic. Brief glimpses into the culture of the musicians; Prayer time. A power shortage. Going to the market to fix instruments. Caring for local animals. The musicians performed so artfully it can easily inspire you to take up your own tools and work towards a similar level of mastery.
