You savor every moment of Jackie Brown. Those who say it is too long have developed cinematic attention deficit disorder. I wanted these characters to live, talk, deceive and scheme for hours and hours.
It's a straight-ahead caper flick, very cool, and very, very Seventies (although it takes place in 1995), from production and costume design on down to the soundtrack.

The soundtrack is an all timer, Samuel L's best performance, a thoroughly entertaining ride from start to finish. 2nd for me on Tarantino's movies.

Its greatest assets are imaginative camera work and top-flight performances from Pam Grier as the heroine, Samuel L. Jackson as the deadly boyfriend, and Robert Forster as the bail-bondsman who falls battily in love with her.
Tarantino puts together a fairly intricate and relatively uninvolving money-smuggling plot, but his cast is so good that you probably won’t feel cheated unless you’re hoping for something as show-offy as "Reservoir Dogs" or "Pulp Fiction."
At 2 1/2 hours, it all plays like the rough assembly of a 90-min. caper film--an anecdote told at epic length. Grier, foxy lady of '70s blaxploitation, is given little chance to radiate. [22 Dec 1997, p.80]
Except for a few of his trademark time-sequence zig-zags, Tarantino's storytelling is boringly linear. At a running time of two hours and 35 minutes, it often feels like we're slogging through a B-movie that got too big for its sprockets.

After all is said and done, this film just isn't worth 2 and a half hours of anybody's time. Even Tarantino's brilliance and the excellent cast couldn't turn this moronic plot line into something compelling. I don't know what on earth possessed Quentin Tarantino to choose a story like this to do a movie.

Posted on 5/26/13 08:04 PM QTs third film delivers none of the thrills you would expect to get from his work however this film does deliver enough twist and turns that make this film enjoyable and not a such a waste of time

The first 45 minutes was golden. The cast is great, The story progresses nicely and I honestly have no issues with it. It's the next hour and forty-five minutes I have an issue with. The pace just comes to a crippling halt, We are given long bouts of characters just sitting there talking to each other, Nothing really happening with the story is going on during this time either. It's just dialogue filled scenes that bore you to death and it ****. This movie should have been edited down by another half hour or more. There is way, way, way too much filler here and it doesn't do what could have been a decent movie justice.
