The movie’s strongest moments come when the action gets so ridiculous that the audience almost has to laugh, even as they’re wondering who’s going to die next.

A chaotic and engrossing mystery built around that evergreen of the espionage and political intrigue genre, the hunt for a “mole” in Korean intelligence agencies.

It is a movie that is difficult to get good reviews in countries other than Korea because it is necessary to understand the modern history of Korea, so the contents of the play can be very confusing if you do not know the modern history of Korea. In Korea, the director's debut film is said to have been selected more than expected because of his understanding of the history of the 1970s and 1980s, which allows him to fully understand the events in the drama and the movements of the characters. It succeeded in adjusting the content properly, and it is also a movie that creates tension among viewers by mixing non-fiction and fiction properly.

This is a thrilling mole hunt that will keep you guessing, in the same vein as No Way Out and The Departed. It does feature a lot of torture and murder by competing Korean intelligence agencies, but this might have been more common during past regimes. Ultimately, it is escapist action fare that keeps accelerating towards a bloody conclusion.

A twisty, action-packed political thriller — one that keeps you guessing even as it spirals into ever-crazier realms.

At two hours and change Hunt definitely outstays its welcome, while it’s disappointing Lee has room for only two notable female characters. If you are up for some robust, relentless, blood-splattered mayhem, though, it’s well worth hunting down when it makes its way into cinemas.

The explosiveness and wavering intrigue and sleek blue-gray cinematography minted for a cop movie––the kind that reflects thematic consideration and well-crafted execution in matching the steeliness of its hard-nosed leads––can’t do enough to save it.

A convoluted conclusion, begot by an unconvincing change of heart, obliterates any chance of “Hunt” offering the clarity it needs to be entertaining. Instead, Lee’s directorial effort wanders toward something unmemorable.

What this twisty espionage thriller ... doesn’t have enough of is character depth or storytelling coherence.
