It’s a film of great tragedy, but one so rooted in beating humanity that you can’t help but be left furious, in addition to teary-eyed.

[Sobbing] Ah… when was the last time a movie made me cry like this? It feels so real, so close. The friendship… the pain… the small hopes… everything feels honest and pure. The music is warm, the shots are beautiful, and every scene feels like a memory from real life. It is cinematically brilliant. I loved the texture of the film. The ending made me cry.

"Homebound" is a compelling, emotionally rich story of two dreamers trying to escape their birth circumstances, amidst bigotry and hatred. It’s that rare cinematic treasure that can pleasantly touch and surprise anyone.

The precision, beauty and emotion in the film is built on strong writing (the screenplay is by Ghaywan and the story is by Peer, Ghaywan and Sumit Roy) and superb performances.

Deeply empathetic and increasingly universal, Ghaywan’s sophomore effort isn’t particularly subtle, but that does little to dilute the film’s impact or detract from its message.

Homebound is both especially relevant in its exploration of the marginalized communities suffering on the outskirts for the identities society deemed lesser and increasingly resonant for how it shows human endurance does continue to live and fight on in pursuit of achieving their dreams to one day escape, earn their right to freedom and show that no single person should be defined by their background or community.

Bring tissues for a doozy of an ending that will have everyone bawling in the aisles.

This movie feels less like storytelling and more like ticking ideological boxes. Every single moment is forced into caste and religion, as if Indian society is nothing but endless oppression porn. Dalits suffering, Muslims suffering, everyone else portrayed as cartoonishly hostile — again. There’s no nuance, no balance, no real characters, just a loud agenda screaming at you scene after scene. It plays exactly like a Netflix checklist rather than an honest film. Instead of trusting the audience, it lectures nonstop. Tired, predictable, and painfully one-sided. Cinema deserves better than this recycled narrative.
