Good Fortune

Good Fortune is a refreshing comedy that audiences haven’t seen in a while, a movie with a message that both advocates for a cause and entertains.

Good Fortune showcases the virtues of the goofball side of Keanu Reeves. With all that great John Wick action, it’s easy to forget just how charming and lovable Reeves can be when playing an average joe or a misfit.

There’s a whole other movie happening within Good Fortune‘s attempt to Aesop-fable its way to some moral about a modest life being a more fulfilling one even if you’re forced to live in your car. And when Reeves gives you a glimpse of that story, in which someone truly learns that humanity is both painful and blissful in equal measures, and anchors it all with a truly divine turn, well — you feel fortunate that get to witness that.

Sometimes the jokes aren't funny so much as they are vindicating; it's cathartic to see a movie capture all the little insulting ways that low-wage workers are often treated. 

Unfortunately, the sharp point of view and creative risk-taking present in Ansari’s acclaimed series Master Of None (co-created with Alan Yang) are nowhere to be seen in this pedestrian comedy full of convoluted plot points.

Good Fortune has its heart in the right place, but it lacks a spark and internal engine that might have made it more entertaining, and ultimately impactful.

In truth, this feels more like a half-baked comedy sketch stretched far beyond its breaking point—until even the last traces of humor have leaked out like the gooey innards of a Stretch Armstrong toy that’s been tortured by a sadistic kid.

giving it a 10 just to bring the overall score up because it's def not a 6 in actuality i'd give it at least an 8 because I enjoyed it and it was worth the money to go see it at the movies

Me pareció una película entretenida, con una idea interesante y momentos graciosos que funcionan. Vale la pena verla al menos una vez.

Oh man, I go back and forth on Keanu's and his ability to actually act these days and this movie was a perfect encapsulation. He has some lines that make it seem like he has never been in front of a camera before and then multiple perfect comedic deliveries. The movie itself was a very shallow look at a poor/rich life swap.

Great premise. Few laughs. Maybe have worked better if Aziz and Seth had switched roles.

I consistently appreciated the film's willingness to use less CGI. I generally liked the idea behind the plot, and I found it funny in places. However, it's too cautiously superficial for a comedy and too dramatically inconsistent for a film. Furthermore, the direction is often inconsistent with the story. It's clear that Ansari has a good feel for the subject matter, but lacks the craft, both as a writer and as a director.
