Some really bad casting choices here. However i dont think it would make a difference. It would just be less of an assault on the senses. Maybe in 3d i would have liked it...

Now that I know the movie was made for 3D, the silly bullet effects make sense. Fitting that this call back to grindhouse movies is also a call back to the now dead 3D fad. This movie sits on the edge of terrible, perhaps a 2.5 stars out of 5 stars. I hit fast forward through some of it. I’ve seen these movies before, back when they low budget movies were a staple of late night cable television. This film has a few stars aside of Nicholas Cage, but the appeal is clearly based on Cage and his characteristic antics. (I highly recommend “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent” for a full Cage redux.) In one memorable scene, he has a gun fight while smoking a cigar, drinking whiskey, and making love to a woman all at the same time. Most of the time he is standing with his trademark stoop and trademark surly face. The inaction of the main character versus his reputation reminds me a little of “Dolemite”. This all part of the running gag of the movie. Back in the day, these types of movies are never so much about the story as stringing together the scenes that the movie could afford to film. This kind of purposeful homage could transcend those movies. Remember that low budget films gave us movies like “Highlander”. A good low budget movie is possible. This is where “Drive Angry” misses. Instead of ridiculous 3D shots, we could have had something worth watching.

I won't lie I went into this movie, thinking that I was going to be wathcing another "gone in 60 seconds" movie or something along those lines, but I was wrong, this movie is like "Ghost rider" "Constantine" and [ryan goslings] "Drive", the movie as a whole was vary entertaining, I liked how we, as the viewer, were left in the dark as to what the characters origins were, and what there motives are I won't ruin the movie for you, but its definitely worth a watch, it's way better then I expected from a Nicolas Cage movie I would love to see a sequel to this movie.

Drive angry is almost as bad as Nicolas Cage in general. It tries way too hard to be grindhouse, but it's just rubbish. Couldn't make to the end, it was too stupid.

Love this movie. Was fun and interesting. Plus love Cage. Worth watching! Was a bit dark but also had some comedy. I don't normally watch these kind of movies, but this was pretty good.

Drive angry 3D is the best movie ever made. Better than Casablanca, Citizen Kane and Pulp Fiction. "But these are all masterpieces of the medium," you may be asking "How could this movie that has a lowly 5.4 Metascore be better than those classics?" Well I'll tell you why this movie is better. This movie has Nic Cage who has escaped from hell in a muscle car to avenge the death of his daughter at the hands of a satanic cult leader. Need I say more? If you haven't run out to buy 3 copies of this film just from reading that sentence, then maybe you need to have your pulse checked. Besides Nic Cage's Oscar worthy performance in this action flick, the 3 co-stars absolutely fill in the gaps that the light of Cage's star power cannot. Amber Heard plays his side-kick, a fiery hot girl that joins Cage in getting his granddaughter back from Billy Burke who, as the cult leader has kidnapped her and killed Cage's daughter. When I say Amber Heard is fiery hot, I mean it as in the passion that she shows in helping Cage reclaim his family member. C'mon guys, yes Ms. Heard is a beautiful woman, but just because this movie objectifies her doesn't mean I have to as well. The only performance that comes anywhere close to Cage's brilliance is that of of William Fichtner's. Fichtner plays the Marshall from hell, a servant to Satan who is presented the task of capturing and returning Nic Cage's Milton to hell. Throughout the movie, Fichtner plays the role of a stoic and serious warden from the underworld in a charming and delightful way. The third co-star that really gives a stunning performance is Nic Cage's wig. I literally thought that it was his real hair. Any actor who can make you believe that they really are the character they are portraying on screen is doing a masterful job. Overall this movie hits all the bullet points for a great action flick. Hot women and fast cars? Check. Over the top action sequences? Check. Guns that send people to purgatory? Check. Low budget versions of the matrix reloaded rave scene? Uh, Check. Any film where Nic Cage kills 6 people in a hotel room while continuing to have sex with a woman and without putting the 5th of Jack in his other hand down has truly shown that it has mastered the art of cinema. I will end this review with words of wisdom from Nic Cage in this movie "When you race with the devil, you better drive fast as hell"

For reasons best known to him and his accountant, Nic Cage has come to specialize in a strange brand of self conscious trash cinema that's somewhere between gutter exploitation and camp glory. If David Lynch is directing him (in Wild at Heart) or Werner Herzog (in Bad Lieutenant) then the results can be extraordinary. But most of his flicks fall well short of the mark. For twenty or thirty minutes it looks like Drive Angry might be genuine pulp glory, a riotously entertaining redneck rumpus. But it falls apart. If you’ll pardon my French, (and if you won’t, then you better avoid this flick) cowriter-director Patrick Lussier (My Bloody Valentine) has got the balls, but that’s about all he has. Now, balls will get you through the door, and Drive Angry announces itself with some considerable verve: a foul-mouthed monologue by one of Satan’s minions a character called “The Accountant”, played with consummate panache by William Fichtner; a high speed car-chase through some burg identified as “Laughter, Colorado”; and a spectacularly gory, Mad Max style set-to, in which Cage’s blonde-haired “John Milton” blows away four or five bad-asses, but only after establishing the whereabouts of his baby granddaughter, who we soon learn is to be a human sacrifice performed by a satanic cult leader played by Billy Burke (Kristen’s dad in Twilight). By now more or less the time Cage shoots off someone’s hand and sends it careening into the 3D bespectacled audience’s collective lap we have a strong suspicion that this is going to be the most unapologetic 18-rated movie a major movie star has given us in some time. That suspicion grows stronger as we’re introduced to Amber Heard’s salty-tongued waitress, Piper, and then her cheating fiancé (played by the movie’s cowriter, Todd Farmer), who she catches in flagrante, as it were. There are limits of course, this being a studio movie from the US of A. Yes, we can see heads skewered with wooden sticks. Yes we can see eyeballs gouged. Yes we can see Milton shoot half a dozen satanic goons at the same time as he’s playing hide the Chihuahua with some freaked out floozy (but not before one of them sticks his backside with a cattle prod). But the filmmakers tastefully draw the line at full frontal nudity below the waste because that would be obscene, I guess, and generate the dreaded NC-17 rating in the US. And that would never do, not even for a loud, proud redneckerama drama like this one. What else can I tell you? If you saw Shoot Em Up, you probably felt a shudder of recognition at the description of that violent sex scene. And that’s a bit of a downer, because hard as it tries to shock, Drive Angry keeps coming off as a rehash of a bunch of other movies: Ghost Rider definitely comes to mind, and Jonah Hex, The Prophecy and Mad Max, a bit of Tarantino and a lot of Robert Rodriguez (but it’s not anywhere near as good as those guys). The thing is, Lussier and Farmer have ripped off some good stuff, but they don’t have much of a clue how to fit it all together. So the movie just judders to a halt between the set pieces, and frankly, most of the set pieces aren’t all that either. The 3D disguises his ineptitude a little, but Lussier is out of his depth when it comes to putting a complicated action sequence together. Like too many of today’s Bay-acolytes, he cuts fast but he cuts sloppy. What works: Fichtner is excellent, a suave emissary providing the larger than life performance the movie badly needs and (surprisingly) doesn’t get from Cage, who seems to be going through the motions this time. Also surprisingly good: Amber Heard, who comes out swinging and keeps on slugging. And I guess the 3D, which seems of a piece with the tackiness of the enterprise, even though it comes with the heavy price of butt-ugly cinematography. What doesn’t: a story that feels stretched the way those cliffhanger serials used to back in the olden days. And pretty much everything else, though they might say that’s intentional. Ideally see it at a drive-in after half a dozen cold ones. I know, I know: that’s both impossible and socially irresponsible. But there you have it.

A B-movie that has some fun moments, but not enough to recommend this film. Nicholas Cage does a good job at camping it up but a sub par script haunts this movie

"Drive Angry" is a grindhouse movie about fast cars, killer coins, mutilated bodies, bullet holes, bad accents, human sacrifices, Satan, Satan's worshippers, Satan's Accountant, and a few conversations about slitting the throat of an infant so Hell could move up to Earth and party. Find anything that could offend you? The star is Nicolas Cage. His choice of movies in recent years has been, questionable. Either he's been testing the range of his acting skills, or he's only been agreeing to do certain movies that require him to have a weird haircut. That man's hair has had more alterations than a teenager. After "Season of the Witch" and "Drive Angry", it's now safe to say that Mr. Cage needs to hire a new stylist as much as he needs to hire a new agent. Anyway. Cage plays a dead, angry, blonde man named John Milton. Don't ask. His daughter has been brutally murdered by a satanic cult, and plans to execute her baby while they drink beer. Milton, who is in Hell, is not happy. (And that's not just because he's in Hell.) Pissed off and ready to kick some living ass, he steals Satan's special gun and makes his way back to earth in a car. (It's probably Satan's, too.) His actions are constantly monitored by the Accountant, who is the film's most interesting aspect. Abstrusely played by William Fichtner, the Accountant, fresh from the Underworld, is a silent, well-dressed assassin with physical abilities beyond human. So, in short, he is The Terminator from Hell. Read more here: ****/drive-angry-movie-review/

Drive Angry is a total mess of a movie. It's saved from complete embarrassment by a few scatter-shot laughs and a sense of the film truly embracing it's own crappiness. Drive Angry knows that it's bad and manages to squeeze a few drops of quality out of that recognition. Still nowhere near good, though.

This is a pure drive-in B movie like the ones of the 50's, 60's, & 70's in the movie genre called "grindhouse." Grindhouse, the name of a Tarentino and Rodriguez double movie, is a genre of film that wasn't coined by them but has existed and Drive Angry delivers the B drive-in movie experience in spades. It used to be that couples and families would hook a cheap metal speaker to their driver side window of their car, open up a bucket of chicken and beers, and sit in a large parking lot of giant speed bumps where cars would be tilted up towards a giant white screen and watch a double bill of movies similar to Drive Angry. Drive Angry is the story about a father who escapes from hell to rescue his grandchild held by a group of satanic worshipers for a sacrifice to the devil. The story or the the hottest woman of the year, Amber Heard, are incidental to the style of writing and cheap B movie cinematography that makes this film an instant cult classic. Think the original 70's "Last House on the Left," the original 50's version of "the Blob," the original 50's "the Thing," or any Chuck Norris movie of the 70's before his tv shtick. Worth renting, making popcorn and getting one of the films above to add to your double bill of the evening. Great movie like Gandhi, of course not. Fun movie like a violent sadistic, tongue-in-cheek version of Animal House not a perfect analogy, but you get the idea. Drive Angry will only disappoint you if you're expecting more then it is: a B movie classic.

If you saw the poster of the movie and thought of a movie with abundant action and car chases, well, your wrong. "Drive Angry 3D" is a revenge exploitation (Not sure of that) film about....revenge. It's excessive with blood and gore as well as hell. The story goes up the hill with inane 3D effects as well as the arrogant dialogue, but you'll like it thanks to the sexy Amber Heard and a cool ass Nicholas Cage (Ya know, Nicholas Cage could actually continue his career with acting in B-grade movies like these) . Overall I would advise you to rent it, but watch it with pure fun. R) 5.5

The movie smells like "Grindhouse", but "Drive Angry 3D" has level of unpredictable humor, cleaner violence (if you compare this to Tarantino's or Rodriguez's), and crazy story line that, believe me or not, does a better job than "Grindhouse"

Very disappointing movie. Nicholas Cage has lost his touch of you ask me. Had a hard time seeing how this was considered action. I'd say it is right along the lines of porn. The only action was in the beginning and that wasn't all that great. Don't trust the movie trailer, looks can be deceiving and that proves true for this movie. If your into very sexual movies with slight action this is for you. If not, i would suggest you not watch it.

its a simple film with alot of action which harkens back to the 70s driving acting flicks . its low on plot with simple one dimentional charicters . its alot like shoot em up which i kinda expected but not as good . the budget was low and some of the effects arnt up to snuff with what you would expect theese days . but if you take it for what it is just a fun action flick you can find some enjoyment out of it .

the film starts very well and until the first half, goes forward very good. but suddenly metaphysics and guardians of hell and supernatural phenomenon enter the movie. this thing have nothing to do with a parody. a parody must not take itself serious and want to say big things; like the first half of this movie.

I don't know how much more the big screen can take from an increasingly timeworn, disheveled action star, whose movie roles are as hit-or-miss as his receding hairline; though not all to blame. "Drive Angry" is a bottom-rung action flick that comes up short--never seizing any sort of connection with its viewers; lacking any sort of directorial control, intactful character progression and substance, shoddy special effects, and overdone, often intolerant lewdness situated amongst the most unbelieving of circumstances. The film is host to a lasting effect of shortcoming; creating a smutty after taste of despondency and a near failure of a movie. The result, a plethora of plot holes and ambiguity camouflaged by shots of pneumatic rears, bouncing breasts, and overall insipidness.

This movie is ludicrous. Cage is slipping, as are his latest offerings. The entire premise of this movie is completely unbelievable yet is it presented as though it is quite normal.

There is one good reason to watch this movie, and that is Bill Fichtner's incredibly entertaining star performance as a marshal from hell. Amber Heard is not bad either, as a very spunky side-kick to Cage's fugitive. A fairly predictable movie, heavy on the gratuitous violence. Nicolas Cage, the ostensible star, look puffy and washed out, delivering a typically sleepy performance, punctuated by a few incongruous moments of gaiety.

This movie seemed ridiculous, which is what made me want to watch it in the first place. This movie is funny because of Nic Cage, considering he's a horrible actor, which is why this movie just fails in the end.

Not a terrible action flick per say but it does have it problems/annoyances. Im not usually a nit pick kind of guy. I enjoy a movie for what it is, a movie that entertains. This does entertain me, decent action parts, decent chase scenes. Nicolas Cage is a hit or miss actor. And OMG is Amber Heard so **** dayyum. Worth a watch if you like somewhat decent killer/action flicks...worth the bag of popcorn I ate over it.

You have to take it for what it is. It's by no means a top of the line action flick. It does it's job as a grindhouse style movie with cool action and cheesy effects. Not as bad as a Nic Cage movie can be! Amber Heard is HOT!

It isn't a great movie by any stretch of imagination, but it does its dirty work quite well and it is able to deliver one hour and an half of crass, mindless entertainment coupled with cars, satanists, Agent Smith-like devils and magical guns.

Drive me angry, definitely a C-Class movie. Not even a single memorable moment. Milton (Nicolas Cage) is a father who escapes from hell to avenge his daughter death and urges to save the only baby granddaughter, meanwhile the Accountant from hell is assigned to retrieve Milton. I wish I do not have to review thiz movie, bcoz bad words gonna break loose either. Trapped inside the Cage again, we are tired of your experimental Hot-Shot wannabe since GHOST RIDER (2007). Amber Heard is expected to be the Hot Chick element but on the contrary she has become unsexy and extremely boring. The villain, Billy Burke is expected to be fierce and memorable, but instead of that he delivers emptiness. The only appearance that is a rather sizable is coming from William Fichtner as the Accountant with his charismatic and eccentric character. The story itself is never clear since the first time. The action sequences are amusing, always shaking all the time and not focus. I did not even know what is really going on at that time. Yeah, it is a terrible cinematography. It is coming from the Director who almost every time putting anything that smells clichà and not original into his films, such as: DRACULA 2000 (2000) and the remake MY BLOODY VALENTINE (2009). It is intended to be made as Cult Movie or something different, but eventually it becomes a big blunder. Gimme one good reason I should not shoot you in the face, well I know you are driving,.. But your driving is ****. Visit My Blog on JONNY'S MOVEE: ****

By far, the best and most faithful of the recent grindhouse throwbacks. Great performances (especially by William Fichtner, who steals this film with his brilliant portrayal of The Accountant) back a hilarious and exciting homage to the drive-in exploitation films of the '70s. Destined to become a cult classic.

Nope! Nicholas Cage must be needing the **** only redeeming qualities about this mean-spirited waste of time is the eye-candy from the female lead, and the guy from Hell who tries to bring Cage back. This movie has a little bit of cool camera effects, and an interesting scene where Cage is killing guys in his hotel room while otherwise "engaged." Don't waste your money; heck don't even wait for video. Skip it!

Metacritic really needs to take a look at all those critic ratings they've listed as "50s" as they read more like "70s." This is a funny action picture that delivers. That's what all those critics are saying. They're not dissing it for miss the mark as a semi-satirical spin through '60s drive-in and/or grindhouse type fare. It's lewd, crude and it moves like gangbusters, with babes, muscle cars and lots of bizarre gratuitous violence and Satanist villains to boot! Terrific propulsive and plugged-in performances by Cage, Heard, Fichtner and Morse. It's a shame this film got dumped by the distributor but it will rock in home video as word of mouth will be super-strong for this super-wrong movie that gets just about everything, including the 3D, raucously and rudely, righteously and rawly right!

It's an over the top Action movie, with bits of Comedy. I actually think I would've enjoyed the film a bit more if Nic Cage wasn't in it. I mean this guy could be considered one of the best damn actors in the biz if he didn't accept roles like this. Not that this is a bad role to take on, but it's a bad one for Cage. He needs to stick to Drama's damn it. This would've been a better role for Jason Statham type of Actor not fricken Nic Cage.
