Jason Lei Howden's directorial debut is primed for unalloyed genre thrills, making you laugh until your sides hurt and subverting the rom-zom-com format.

Deathgasm is a giddy avalanche of gore and heavy metal-drenched mayhem that takes itself not even a tiny bit seriously.

This movie was really cool, quite a low budget spectacle but cool. I cared about the general story and all of the characters which is a very valuable part of enjoying a film. Music is a great part of this movie and should be acknowledged greatly. Well done.

In between the rampant four-letter words and the occasional partial nudity are likable attempts at humor — some sweet, some saucy.

Peppered with clever, self-referential one-liners that whip by almost too fast to catch them, Deathgasm is – like most metalheads/punks/Morrissey fans – a helluva lot smarter than one might at first suspect.

Gorehounds need not worry that a movie called Deathgasm plays it safe. This is a defiantly, well, metal movie.

A dopey splatterfest that features one-dimensional characters and a draggy first act that’s eventually won over by creatively immature gross-outs and absurd violence.

This amiably dumb feature debut for New Zealand writer-director Jason Lei Howden could have used some additional polish on the scripting side to bump its bad-taste humor up from the routinely to the inspirationally silly.

Deathgasm is a funny movie and if you are metalhead you will like it. However, this film has many flaws: a bad script, a practically non-existent development of characters, a horrible action with bad shots and some very basic and clichéd special effects.

Bloody, gory movie meets teen death metal story meets typical awkward high school boy meets prettiest girl in school film. What a mash up! Guess if I was 50 years younger I would have given it a higher score.

Listen, I am a horror fan, a metal fan, and a comedy fan. And this movie still didn't work for me. The comedy is pretty much all gross-out sex jokes (which is fine but this comes off just super immature and lame) and the characters aren't even really likable. I'm almost positive I didn't even laugh once. There are better stoner metal movies and better horror comedies out there. Don't waste your time.
