It's performed beautifully, laced with a quietly ironic wit, and quite lovely to look at.

A love story in which almost everything works and you don't come out of the theatre half hating yourself for succumbing to its charm. [29 Nov 1973, p.86]

Breezy is a small, personal film that allowed Eastwood to work with talented actors and experiment with directorial style. If he had chosen a more intelligent script, he could have produced a minor classic.

Clint Eastwood's third directorial effort is an okay contemporary drama about middle-aged William Holden falling for teenage Kay Lenz. Associate producer Jo Heims' script works the problem over with perhaps too much ironic, wry or broad humor for solid impact.

A sweet flick featuring William Holden and Kay Lenz. The two leads come across very well and are both charming, I enjoyed both of their performances - with Lenz narrowly edging Holden out, if I had to split them. The story begins a bit iffy but does end up coming out as pleasant. Of course age gap love can be off-putting in film, but as long as it's done correctly then it can work - evidently. Clint Eastwood directs but doesn't feature in a main role, though does have a few second cameo - one that is easy to spot, if you keep close enough attention. The support cast, while nothing standout, are all solid. 'Breezy' is apparently one of Eastwood's lesser seen films, as shown by it having less than 2,000 ratings here on Letterboxd. I guess it's not for everyone, but I'd recommend it - the pacing isn't perfect, but it isn't anything that drags at all.
