American Assassin

Immensely satisfying action thriller.

An action film, a spy thriller, a meditation on revenge, and a story about mentors and pupils, but mostly it's a movie that loves to maim and kill people and is very good at it.

From the generic title to the formulaic plot (stolen plutonium, highest bidder etc.), you can imagine the rest. But director Michael Cuesta (Kill the Messenger) injects vitality where it’s needed.

American Assassin is a Big Action Beats formula thriller that overstays its welcome and never quite gels around its hunky young star, allowing Michael Keaton to steal the movie out from under him.

Trouble is, the movie’s dopiness isn’t in fact something you can get past. “American Assasinine” is frequently more like it.

Despite the actors hired to deliver the story, the superassassin of American Assassin isn’t quite human. He’s just revenge in a henley T.

This movie is not just badly executed, it's also stupid.

I'm not sure what these negative reviews are about. This movie is EASILY better than the last two Bond's, the last two Bourne's, and also kicks ass all on its own. I plan to see it a couple more times before it leaves theartes.

A movie that is mediocre in just about everything. Enjoyable enough within the moment, but utterly forgettable afterwards.

It was kind of paint by numbers action film. It had a little bit of this and a little bit of that. I will say that the beach terrorist scene was great.

The beginning of this movie has one of the most egregious examples of poor gun safety ever put on film. Every person involved in the making of it needs to be publicly shamed. Rare to find a film that takes so many talented performers and renders them as expressive as a wooden statue.
