The immensely likable Already Tomorrow in Hong Kong is a freshly contemporary change-up on the traditional cross-cultural romantic-comedy.

Many filmmakers have tried in recent years, but few have nailed the elusive formula of the two-hander romantic comedy quite like Emily Ting with Already Tomorrow in Hong Kong.

Ting, to her credit, is more interested in the battle between heart and head, instinct and obligation, than in what follows. “Already Tomorrow” is about ambivalence, not gratification, and is more interesting for it.

It’s always entertaining to tag along with these attractive actors on their photogenic journey.

The two stars are attractive, and Emily Ting, who wrote and directed, makes the city look great, but during their endless strolling Ruby and Josh never get much beyond shallow banter.

The film lacks the underlying subtext that grounded similar hopeful-yet-doomed-romance stories in the past.

The script labors to give the film a strong sense of place, but strange lapses confirm a sense that the city isn't a character here.

I Watched this movie in a theater when it came out with my new girlfriend in 2016, she Chinese me caucasian. I thought this is a fitting movie to see for us.
At that time I didn't fully appreciate the pacing and story and the connection in this movie.
I have watched it like 6 times more since, every time I watch it I fall more in love with this film.
This movie hit's every aspect of an almost missed opportunity of connection and love, with so many opportunities to go their separate ways or reasons for them to pull away and never meet again. The quote in the trailer nails it... "You took a chance and went for it, you're never gonna have to look back and wonder what if"
When you see the ending, you will catch the foreshadowing.
The writer of the script was deep and I don't think most people will catch it.
The ending was amazing, add that foreshadowing, and it is beyond epic. They are constantly on the verg of missing out on the connection threw out the movie.
It was masterly done. The connections and build up to their bonding and escalate into a missed lost opportunity to a random re encounter/re connection, to a ending that will always make you wonder. The story was perfect, the acting was perfect, the scenes, and camera work, directing.
This movie makes China look so beautiful also. and They are in a real life relationship and their chemistry was prefect. From the other reviewer "Some of the cinematography was beautiful" it really was, they did masterful job at making Honk Kong look so good. Highly Highly recommended.

Some of the cinematography was beautiful, but this was ruined by a couple with zero chemistry. A sad attempt to portray white men in a racist way, (asian woman gets lost in hong kong so white man has to show her around?). (white man lives in Hong Kong for 10 years but hardly speaks cantonese?) Too bad anytime they had the chance to meet a remarkable asian character, they ignored them (their relationship seems to be more important than anything to actually do with hong kong). Cinematography was still beautiful but, just remove the couple and this would be 5 stars.
