Our advice is to buy Unearthing Mars only in case of a big discount, or if you want to try your hand in a space adventure that is short, simple and immediate.

Unearthing Mars is a difficult game to write about simply because it comes and goes without ever giving you much to go on. By the time the credits roll you’ll already find yourself forgetting what actually happened. Maybe there is life to find on Mars, but you won’t find any here.

I'd say Unearthing Mars is well worth a couple of hours away from the real world. It's rough around the edges, but there are some great ideas at play and an enjoyable adventure to be had.

One of the user reviews was clearly written by the developer. I'll let you figure it out.

Basically a paid tech-demo. While some parts of the game aren't that bad (mostly the shooting segment), every other levels feels more like a tedious chore than actual chore. Plus, even if you found some sparks of fun, at the moment the game starts to pick-up the game already ends with an abrupt and unexplained ending. The story is rather convoluted with no explaination on what's going on, and the characters have the personality of a wooden board. Is like Farpoint but worse. The game can be completed (from my experience) in 2 and a half hours. While the game isn't god awful as Martian VR, this game just isn't that good. Considering that it is actually getting a sequel soon, here's hoping that the developers improve next time.

Unearthing Mars begins as a serious expedition to Mars only to transform into a laughably bad science fiction space opera about angry aliens and partying pig dog beasts. It won’t leave you with anything to remember it by, except for how laughably bad it is. The experience of Unearthing Mars is a lot like being EPCOT Center’s Spaceship Earth while riding high on bad weed.

Unearthing Mars takes you on a journey from your living room to the red planet in 10 short levels. Push a few buttons, twiddle some knobs and that’s about all there is to this title.
