It is a game that may not be for everyone, but it has that charm that many of its fans will like. It would be unforgivable not to give a chance to one of the games that served as inspiration for other successes.

The developers didn't invent the already invented - they figured out how to bring a cult classic out of cryosleep and offer it to a world that may have forgotten how brilliant it was. [Issue#328]
The System Shock remake is a boring shooter. It will not surprise old fans and can hardly attract new players.

After helping shape the immersive sim genre with Ultima Underworld, Warren Spector went on to develop System Shock, marking a true before-and-after moment in first-person games. It became the precursor to later masterpieces such as System Shock 2 and the acclaimed BioShock. This remake by Nightdive Studios updates the original in exemplary fashion, making it accessible to modern audiences without losing its identity, despite its high difficulty and occasionally frustrating level design. In any case, it is highly recommended for any lover of the immersive sim genre. My rating: ****

Old gamer here. Played the original game from 1994. What can I say. This version seems almost soulless. No feedback of weapons when hitting. No sound changes on situation changes. The puzzles I have seen are somehow cluttered to the point I can not make out much. Bad design decisions. Same goes for texts. Messages you find around the game are generic and badly acted. No comparison to the original. Items you pick up give no hints what you just picked up. Contrary to the original. The only thing better than the original is the graphics. But when literally everything else is worse, then I do not see any sense in playing this remake. This proves once again: Crowdfunding leads subpar products.

Looks and plays great overall, fan of the original will love what they did here. Otherwise you might find the gameplay a little more lacking compared to more modern games like bioshock and deadspace. The maps though are great to explore. The puzzles are generally fun on their own. You also might appreciate the lack of handholding. It's up to to figure out where you need to go and what you need to do to progress from the logs. There so "press this button for main objective" handholding. One little annoyance I have, I couldn't see a consistant and clear indicator for what type of ammo I have loaded. So I was also going back to the inventory to remember which ammo is in certain weapons. For some weapons it's obvious, but not all. The game manages to maintain some suspense with the gameplay, but the environment isn't really built for horror. This could be a horror game but isn't quite there because of the presentation. However, the presenation is a modernization of the original, it's true to itself. So fans of the orginal should love it. Worth noting that their are seperate difficulty settings for combat vs. puzzles etc. So you can tune it to your liking. However, once you start you are locked in.

System Shock has stood the test of time which is shown in this remake effort that didn’t have to do too much in terms of updating its core features to bring it to modern gamers. If you’re coming from the original, the new visuals take some time, but the experience holds up from a gameplay standpoint. Immersion comes naturally throughout this experience as you hack and fight against a rogue AI to save Earth like an authentic ’90s sci-fi hero.

Absolutely incredible game! Wow... Nightdive has made one of gaming's best remakes. I was completely drawn into the atmosphere of Citadel Station. Looks amazing and runs silky smooth. Seriously.. the visuals are so unique. Lots of exploration, combat and figuring stuff out. There are difficulty settings to make navigation and combat easier, so definitely more accessible to people who didn't play games before the internet lol. Now where the heck is System Shock 2 Enhanced Edition??

Technically clean and for the most part beautiful to look at, this re-imagining of a classic is driven by its story but suffers from the once-pioneering principles of the legendary original.

System Shock is back in a version that is a love letter to the original and to its fans, but which can also be an opportunity to rediscover an authentic video game classic for a new audience of enthusiasts. We have to overcome the obstacle represented by a gameplay that has remained anchored in the past, but - once this is done - we find ourselves faced with a memorable cyberpunk imagery, the same one that made an entire generation fall in love in the 90s. SHODAN awaits you in the Citadel: will you have the courage to face his evil machinations?

Nightdive Studios did a solid, thorough job of restoring the classic, but I have the impression that the developers focused too heavily on trying to please those who remember the original fondly. Its numerous annoying elements that were left untouched show how much the industry has changed over the past three decades and I’m afraid will discourage many younger players accustomed to modern standards. SHODAN, however, is as terrifying as she was years ago.

The graphics won’t blow you away and it won’t be making too many “best graphics of the year” lists. But it’s a loving tribute and beautifully recreated edition of a much-beloved classic. There’s a lot to like in this remake, and if this is the building block for what’s to come in the franchise, there are plenty of reasons to be optimistic.

Nightdive’s System Shock remake is a strange game, and whether it will appeal to you may largely depend on your nostalgia for the era of gaming from which it came. This remake still shows its age, despite the considerable and impressive paint job, lighting, and updated controls. If you don’t mind the sometimes murderous level of difficulty, tons of backtracking, and minimal handholding, System Shock may be a compelling piece of gaming history that is worth checking out.

A lovingly made remake **** that if it hadn't existed neither would most of my all time favourite titles. 10/10

System Shock Remake successfully revitalizes a classic, introducing a new generation to the cyberpunk horror that defined the immersive sim genre. Nightdive Studios' thoughtful enhancements in visuals, combat, and difficulty customization breathe fresh life into a 30-year-old masterpiece. Despite minor quirks, the remake remains a testament to the timeless appeal of System Shock, delivering an unforgettable journey through the depths of a cybernetic nightmare.

It is an extremely faithful remake to the point that some points are detracted due to keeping oversights from the first game. Cyberspace is less confusing but still annoying and unnecessary as it was implemented. The last boss is very disappointing and anti-climactic, The ending itself is kind of a letdown as it's really basic, and some of the 'story puzzles' are still really convoluted without a guide or a former playthrough. Still a very good game overall, I really like the graphics as they fit the aesthetic (trying for photo realism would've been a mistake in my opinion). Combat is fun although it gets rather tedious in the last two floors. The game also does a really good job of creating a suspenseful atmosphere early on, shame is kinda gets lost around the Executive floor. That's also true for the difficulty- I played on the highest difficulty and it was only challenging up to executive, where they decided to give you unlimited resources.

A bad remake, sure it was remarkable in 1993, sorry but now this is really ugly and annoying. I was expecting a lot from bioshock's dad but i got really disappointed. I think it's the first time over hundreds of games (of which lot of very old games) i don't finish one.
