The tried and true gameplay, excellent controls, detailed graphics and online play add up to a great package for gamers. However the difficulty and dated look of some of the graphics and sound effects will have non-SNK fans looking elsewhere for their fighting fix.

All of the character and background sprites are composed in a low resolution, too, and when compared to the ultra sharp sprites of "Guilty Gear X2 #Reload," it really shows its age.

Behind the poor soundtrack, outdated visuals and general lack of presentation is a beat-em-up with rock-solid gameplay mechanics and ample multiplayer appeal.

SvC will make the hardcore audience that lives for technical fighting games extremely happy; most other gamers will be left wondering what all the fuss is about. [Dec 2004, p.90]

The Xbox Live will keep you happy for a very long time. There are some issues with the Xbox controller. Maybe I just have fat fingers, but I think it is best if you use a larger Arcade controller.

The actual fighting is solid, and the addition of Xbox Live play, oversights and all, is appreciated. However, it's hard to recommend the game when SNK hasn't done much to upgrade the game's engine or battle system in so long.

SVC Chaos also boasts some screwed-up character balance, where four characters--Geese, Zero, Iori, and Chun-Li--can pretty much own the rest of the cast for free, and the single worst case of the infamous SNK Boss Syndrome that I've ever seen.

Even some of the older games, like "Samurai Showdown 3," had more going on with the same quality of graphics and sound.

The issue with SVC Chaos is that while it has a great deal of pick-up-and-play it severely suffers from an absence of any longevity outside of its online component. SVC Chaos feels more like the beginning of something really exciting, but falls far from containing anything of real substance.

SVC Chaos isn't bad - actually, quite the opposite - it's just that I'd recommend any previous Capcom vs. SNK game over this one. [Oct 2004, p.77]
