After major disappointment re sociable soccer delays, this was an unexpected gem. A few hours in, really feels like a swos variant - but for the first time, in a good way. Aftertouch fun was quick. Headers, volleys and overheads were a few hours in. Occasional strip colour clashes silly oversight. More easily allowing / exposing mod options another update easy win. The indoor mode is great as long bending shots can be sneakily deliberately aimed just past the post for rebound attack. The crazy weather, crater stuff fun for some but would not select this personally. Single player mode has decent options and although difficulty progression seems uneven as is ref behaviour, did not really seem to matter as I plotted my next overhead kick goal on the end of a halfway beckham punt. 2 player benefits from fairly easy entry level as all one button versus trying to tell a pal or mixed group, who only some play games, how to navigate a bunch of fifa controls. This game and dev team deserves a great deal of credit I feel. Something magical captured.

With the general lack of options for sporting experiences on the Switch, it’s always great to see a new contender enter the ring. In the case of Super Arcade Football, definitely with an emphasis on the word Arcade, people looking for depth will likely be disappointed, but if you’re just looking for a good time that keeps things simple (but still challenging) it can be surprisingly engaging. Forgoing the use of multiple buttons for different moves or actions here you’ll stick to one button for passing, shooting, and tackling… and once you get used to things you’ll find you’re able to put at least a little bit of a curve on the ball as well to at least introduce some nuance to things. Matches are short, changing weather conditions at times are a nice touch but don’t fundamentally mess with things too much, and starred objectives that change for each match add an element of challenge to the mix to keep everything from running together completely. Throw in the ability to play with someone else (locally, or online if you’re lucky) and though this isn’t a full-blown sim by any means it’s surprisingly engaging and delivers some fun for a budget price. ****/2021/09/mini-reviews-september-27th-edition.html

A really excellent and fun football game. The best one of the switch for sure. I was a fan of sensible world of soccer (SWOS) on Amiga. Super arcade football is almost as good in terms of gameplay, which is a huge compliment.
