In an industry filled with games that look to grab every dollar possible from you or ones littered with bugs, Hazelight shines bright as a studio focused on the only thing that matters — having fun. Split Fiction is a must-play game of 2025 for that reason alone.
Split Fiction is a heartfelt cooperative adventure that celebrates friendship and teamwork with consistently engaging mechanics that never overstay their welcome. Despite minor flaws, its impressive level design and spectacular final sequence make it a standout experience best played with a friend. Hazelight Studios has once again pushed the boundaries of the co-op genre—leaving us eager to see what they’ll create next.
This game overflows with creativity and inspiration, constantly throwing a whirlwind of fresh gameplay styles and heartfelt homages at the player. While not every idea lands perfectly—some mechanics shine more than others—the sheer variety keeps things engaging and unpredictable. Despite the occasional stumble in execution, the moments of brilliance far outweigh the weaker elements, making the overall experience feel ambitious, energetic, and thoroughly worth exploring.

Not a bad game, but story is worse than it takes two, gameplay also worse than in takes two, zero humor included, not sure but also less hours of gameplay, character development is meh, design was also better in it takes two even though split fiction provides better warriety in design it lacks polishment and gameplay features included in those new design styles, also speaking about future interactions in story you will probably feel zero logic in moves that main antagonist is doing, and ofc its a story with bad bad villain and good good heroes who need to put an end to all his crap. Such a uniue story which has never been seen and I truly do not care about two random strangers facing this problems, because what exactly was their story about? How Mia needs to stop being an **** and Zoe **** let go of her sister and we get to know about this plot at the end of the game, so Zoe doesnt grew a single inch in character development and at the end Mia just becomes a little bit less ****, that's it. Game is meh, so I give it a meh score, It takes two was great so it's a step downhill

Split Fiction is a perfect game, I can’t put it any other way. Whether you’re talking about the incredible world-building, great central narrative or expertly designed levels, there’s not a foot Split Fiction puts wrong. Constantly keeping its gameplay fresh and bombarding you with new and exciting adventures, Split Fiction champions itself on being a wonderful time, and one you (and your gaming partner) deserve to experience.

Josef Fares' biggest project to date puts him among the industry's biggest names as a developer we should keep an eye on. After the 2021 GOTY, the Swedish-Lebanese has outdone himself with a project that once again shows his growth as a creative mind. Split Fiction may not reach the trophies that its predecessor won, but it will end 2025 as many people's favorite game.

It manages to be creative and entertaining right up to the end of the game. I found it more successful than It Takes Two.

With Split Fiction, Hazelight consolidates its position as the king of the co-op game with grander, stranger and downright dizzying gameplay situations. While film and game history is celebrated with the utmost sincerity, you experience an adventure with two players that you will definitely not forget. A must play for anyone who can't get enough of (couch) co-op, but actually everyone should free up fourteen hours to experience this. A big fat Gold award.

Split Fiction is an amazing game, and it is akin of any kids first visit to a candy store. It is crammed full of new ideas, new gameplay mechanics, bigger and shinier levels, but somehow along the way it’s lost a part of its soul and along with it some of the appeal It Takes Two had. Don’t get me wrong, it is a very good game, and I cannot recommend it enough, but the characters and the flow of the gameplay seem to have been misplaced among all the new things the developer throws at you. For me, this is a split experience.

Overall, Split Fiction exceeded our expectations when it came to co-op action-puzzling — we just wished the story had more nuance and depth. If Hazelight Studios were to focus the same level of attention to both gameplay and writing, their narratives could serves to be more than vehicles to experience their action through, and that would be something like no other. However, even as it is, Split Fiction remains something special and one of the best cooperative experiences out there.

Split Fiction is hokey, muddled, and needlessly self-defeating. It’s also lively, inventive, and so earnest that it’s hard to be mad at it for long. These aren’t opposing forces that tear Hazelight’s latest apart; the clumsiness is inseparable from the delight. Both are born from the ambitious vision of artists who still believe in the magic of creativity and are willing to take big swings in its honor. Sometimes it absolutely whiffs. We all do. Fail again. Fail better. But it’s those moments where it connects, where simple ideas turn into unforgettable spectacle, that remind us why art can’t be automated. Even the most advanced machine can never dream bigger than a human with a heart.

My rating system: Gameplay 50% Graphics 30% Story 20% This is the best couch co-op there is and I wish there were more co-op games with this level of quality and production values. It's creative, always something different and unexpected, sometimes funky and ridiculous but always fun! Coordination is an absolute must. The puzzles themselves aren't too difficult, but be warned that for non-gamers this game will be too hard. While the controls are very smooth, responsive, platforming forgiving, it still requires fast reaction, running while moving camera, double jumping and dashing while guiding your direction mid-air. You have to have at least some action game experience to be comfortable. And later on, especially bosses will only get harder - with many fire and laser particles, crazy, dizzy camera movements and requirements to aim precisely during chaos. Level variation is great, graphics are 100% modern AAA and the story is multi-layered with both womens' characters developing over the course of the game. My only complaint is that there's no single player option even after beating the game, I wish to replay it sometime.

English : Split Fiction is great. Like any Hazelight game, you'll have fun with it cause it's what the studio is looking for. Even though, it's hard to challenge It takes two. This new story lacks fluidity, and feels more like little pieces of gameplay put together no matter what. The characters had a hard time growing on me, I even thought they were quite unsufferable in the beginning. The vision of what fantasy and science fiction are mainly relies on commercial cliches you can feel are an excuse for creating "gaming situations". It lacks subtlety. That being said, the environments and the music are exquisit and you'll have a good time. The emotions do not run as high as with ITT though.

I’m conservative with scores so this might sound like an 8 for some: Super fun from start to end with an almost insane amount of variety in game design. It’s basically a big bowl of candy and we definitely had a good time with it. In the same vein though, a bowl of candy tastes cheap and lacks depth. Split Fiction is a game about sci-fi and fantasy tropes, and it’s taking these tropes to ironic degrees. However, it doesn’t do this tongue in cheek, instead the drama is played rather seriously, resulting in cringing for me. The design also shares this trait of being ”too much” and comes across as a cluttered neon mess at times. Regardless of this, it is currently one of the best games in the co-op genre. Still quite far from the meta brilliance of It Takes Two, and not a genius party game like overcooked. But somewhere in between those two.

I’m completely disappointed with this game because of its length. The game itself isn’t bad, but it doesn’t come close to It Takes Two, which is way better. But 15 hours for a full playthrough definitely isn’t worth €45. There’s just too little content, and the publisher once again showed their greed.

The game does not support Arabic language. This makes the experience difficult and disappointing for Arabic-speaking players. Please add Arabic subtitles or full localization in future updates
