I had some fun with the characterful SONIC WINGS REUNION but it definitely doesn't live up to its iconic 2D shoot 'em up predecessors.

Sonic Wings Reunion focused on reviving a past star, but without capitalizing on its glory or bringing anything new. Not even nostalgia can be a draw, given that many other franchises, such as Gradius, Darius, and X-Out, have dedicated themselves to releasing collections or remastering their main titles, adding achievements and memorabilia. The Aero Fighters' flight deserved more attention.

With its generic gameplay, drab visuals and lack of modes, Sonic Wings Reunion is a real disappointment. This isn't a bad game by any means, but it does nothing to excite, besides having a wealth of pilots to choose from.

Two decades on, the Sonic Wings series needed a shot in the arm but this isn't it. With it's bland gameplay and drab visuals, there aren't many reasons to recommend this flawed shoot 'em up.
