The overwhelming dryness of this style of game, along with the portability issues that hang over it like a rather nasty storm mean that this game is best left to the PC if at all possible, which is a far better platform for the amazing depth, strategy and variety that this game offers.
No two games are same. This is one of the few GBA games that will actually give you an education while entertaining you at the same time.
For all the pros and cons of this type of game, Sim City 2000 has the stamp of quality. It is very well presented graphically although it doesn't have quite the feel of a bustling city the PC version has.
Although the original version of SimCity 2000 was built for point-and-click control, it translates well to the GBA control configuration. [Feb 2004, p.154]
The graphics are ridiculously tiny, even close up. Oh well, at least it's playable. [Summer 2004, p.42]
The screen size and button layout of the GBA prove to be limitations that this otherwise respectable port of SimCity 2000 cannot overcome.
Nice eye candy, but without any substance. The features that made the PC version so addictive and well balanced are all gone, and what remains is only a shell of the original game, which is little more than an unresponsive electronic sandbox.

Very nice game. Gave it a 8 instead of 9 because you can't control water pipes and pumps, you can only manage electricity. Short game for a city builder. Overall, it's a pretty good game!

SimCity 2000 is an honest port for the Game Boy Advance. This is based on its original version. And although it's not enough, it is a way to get the title on your handheld. The core gameplay of the Maxis and Electronic Arts franchise is present in this version. Unfortunately, this version is a pasteurization of the original game, and fails in practically everything else it proposes. The SimCity 2000 port is a leaner version, which maintains the same challenges. It turns out that, if you have the chance to play the PC version, there's no doubt, choose that one.
