These 2 "Banned Footage" DLC packs should have already been included in the base "Resident Evil 7" game, and separating them as overpriced paid DLC was purely an act of greed. I understand it likely cost Capcom a ton of money to develop the engine and the game, but the company is almost definitely already loaded, and the base game was too short on content to justify recycling assets to make other game modes that could have just as well been included already, especially since "Not A Hero" (which wasn't very good, but still) was released for free and features new content. To speak of the DLC itself, it consists of two modes, called "Nightmare" and "Bedroom". I like that an attempt was made to have them fit canonically in the Resident Evil 7 lore, as they act as soft-prequels to the base game by depicting what other characters who were captured by the Baker Family had to go through to survive. It's just that the modes themselves are mediocre at best, and from what I can tell, they only recycle assets from the base game. Nightmare is basically a lazy and less replayable version of "Call of Duty Zombies", where-in you're tasked with surviving 4 or 5 waves of the same Molded zombie enemies that you already fought in the base game, culminating in Jack Baker as the final boss here. You get a certain amount of points to spend on upgrades and weapons from machines fixed throughout the tiny basement area this DLC takes place in (which, I'll remind you after stating that none of these DLC introduce any new content, is a location that already existed in the base game), and while this is already a less appealing way to earn points than just from killing the zombies like in "COD Zombies", for some reason these machines break a few waves in, meaning you have a very limited amount of points to spend. The music is pretty good and this is still a fairly digestible mode much like "Ethan Must Die", but it becomes repetitive too quickly because of its stringent mechanics. Bedroom, on the other hand, is just a particularly elaborate puzzle with a few twists thrown in. You are tasked with finding a way of escaping a bedroom (again, a room that already exists in the base game) you are being held hostage in, and the twist is that as you interact with objects to get out you must put everything back in place before your hostage-taker returns to the room, or else she will injure you when she finds evidence that you've been trying to escape. It's a tense experience, but you only need to solve it once before it loses most of its replay value. There is the added challenge of finding some hidden collectibles in the small bedroom this mode takes place in, but there's no saving the fact that all you'll be doing most of the time is randomly looking around a room until finding whatever you need to get out, with moments of legitimate problem solving in between. Again, there's no reason this couldn't have just been one of the other flashbacks in the base game.

It's good, it's good DLC content, but it's a little bit mixed. To begin, the DLC at launch was a bit overpriced; the entirety of it is about 1/2 hours long, which for ten dollars is a bit much. This is because while there are 4 modes, 2 of them are good, and 2 of them are bad. And the ones that are good, are enjoyable, but if you don't care about the story (Which I don't know why you'd be playing RE7 for anything but the story), you can largely skip it. Mode 1: Nightmare: ****! Nightmare mode is everything that RE7 wasn't. RE7 was an incredibly good story that's mixed in with some of the most frightening experiences you can find, along with puzzles. There is combat and boss fights in that (That are great btw), but nothing crazy that feels too out of character or action-y for this game. This mode took this games movement and combat that was never designed to be used in this way, and put it into a survival action environment. It's not fun, it's not scary, and it's exactly what RE7 wasn't which essentially is bad. (Also it has 0 Story implications). 2nd Gamemode: Bedroom: This is the standout of the DLC. It's a very well designed group of puzzles that entirely happen in 1 room. It's a puzzle designed on quick problem solving, and a keen observation of the environment. This is what the other modes should have been, Small mini puzzle rooms that are able to communicate or reveal parts of the story. 3rd Gamemode: 21: It's fine. I think it had more potential than the final product. a poker game of survival with imagery of shocking and cutting off fingers is a neat idea for a horror side mode. But it wasn't the best execution, I kind of wish it was more a fun gamemode where you just play poker and see how long you canget, rather than making it something you essentially play once, and never again because If you've played it once, you've played it a million times over. 4th Gamemode: Daughters: Bedroom is the standout game portion of this DLC, whereas Daughters is the standout story and horror-wise. Daughters gives us the prequal story bits of Zoe and the arrivalof Evelyn. I and I'd assume the majority of people got the bad ending of it. I think it's incredibly cool and smart. It doesn't tell you what you did wrong, or how to fix it, it's not something super huge, but instead to get the true ending you have 2 very small decisions that when choosing the correct ones will get the true ending. Daughters, and Bedroom are what this entire DLC should have been, but overall it is a good package, and if you care about the story you should definitely play it.

Bedroom (8/10 Great): RE7 Bedroom is a fantastic extension of the base game’s puzzle-based Birthday section. The player is desperately trying to find a means of escape while locked in the Baker family’s master bedroom. Bedroom is a challenging puzzle but well worth playing through. My most memorable moment is finally discovering the solution to a three-combination lock after being stuck for over 20 minutes.

Banned Footage Vol. 1 should have been part of the base game at launch. There is no excuse for why this needed to be charged $10 when all you get is three things: 1) A new game mode called Ethan Must Die that rips off Capcom's other franchise Devil May Cry and brutalizes you in a Hell or Hell style that only the 1% will try and succeed in, which should have been included after beating Madhouse instead. 2) A short and forgettable Bedroom piece that could easily been another tape to be found in the story, much like the other ones you find. It's terrible for being too short, even on your first playthrough, and has no replay value, nor difficulty that adds variety to give you any other reason to go back into it. Once you seen it once, you seen it all. 3) Nightmare is surprisingly good: it gives players the mercenaries and raid mode in FPS that has you engaging in enemies and surviving the night. By using scrap and your wit, you create traps, weapons, ammo, health, mods and boosters that increases your chances. Unfortunately, this should have been hugely needed to be released at launch with the base game and charging even anything for it is just shameful. Banned Footage Vol. 1 was cut content to be served as DLC to players. For shame on Capcom and their greedy corporate selves for even doing that. When you only give a new difficulty mode, a tape that is a bit more complex but still the same ideas as the base game's tapes and a survival mode for 10 bucks, that is the biggest f*ck you to me I have seen in quite some time. Even if I don't like Resident Evil 6 or Revelations 2, they at least had extra modes at launch to give players more than the campaign to enjoy. With this "dlc", Capcom has really hurt itself on giving me reason to play RE7 still. With the other footage and story episode yet to be played, I expect far better Capcom.

This dlc was released about a week after the release of the main game, i find this unacceptable profit maximizing, it makes me sick. It is well packed with content for 10 dollar package, but it could have easily been fitted to the main game on the day of release. Dlc package: 8/10 Capcom's morality 0/10 Total Score 4/10

Fantastic set of DLC. Bedroom seems influenced by misery from stephen king. Nightmare is a wave mode of sorts, and ethan must **** INCREDIBLY difficult extra mode.
