The only thing preventing an even higher score is the "Wipeout analogy"—Quantum Redshift matches that standard, but doesn’t deliver something beyond it in terms of gameplay.

Distracted by the majesty of the visuals, it's difficult sometimes to keep your head in the game. [Oct 2002, p.67]

Damn near perfect. Thirteen years later and this game still looks and plays like a dream. The sense of speed is unparalleled, the gameplay is smooth and responsive and the weapon system is easy to manage. This game got so many things right for it's time. I love the water effects and track design (16 of them!) and unlockable characters (the majority of which are female. Unheard of in any game, let alone a racer.) My only gripes are the mediocre soundtrack and silly banter between the characters before races.

One of the few good alternatives to Wipeout. This game amazed me from the start, great controls, great sense of speed, addictive play. As it was stated before underrated.

It's the Ramen Noodles of racing games - not bad on its own, but needs something to spice it up to make it a proper meal.

It’s not that the racers become increasingly difficult, it’s just that the game gets so much faster. Later in the game when you’re on a higher difficulty, it is almost impossible to tell where you’re going, and normally by the time you see a wall, you’ve run into it.

Lacks the white-knuckle, sweat-inducing, warp-speed intensity that the futuristic-racing genre thrives on. [Dec 2002, p.258]

I hate to say it, but the best parts of this game are the vehicle desings and environmental details. The rest of it really did nothing for me. [Nov 2002, p.140]

If Quantum Redshift achieves anything, it’s to make us aware that this genre is in serious need of some new ideas.

A hidden gem for sure. This game never lived up to its hype, but it's actually really fun. Great graphics, simple gameplay and backwards compatibility make it playable today. Only 8 racetracks does make it a bit monotonous though, as it takes a while to open up the last one.

A game that should stand out in it's genre, it incorporates the weapon system and shields very well, along with a nice feeling of comfort for any certain racer. With great visuals and even greater gameplay, this game is a definite must-buy.
