Overall, I enjoyed my time with Champions of the Continent, and its high quality outweighed its flaws. So long as you don’t mind not having “the best” party composition, completing the main story Paths without spending a penny is feasible. Regardless, I wish it had been a ground-up premium experience: an Octopath Traveler 1.5. The original Bravely Default had a “half sequel” in the form of Bravely Second before the numerical mainline sequel Bravely Default II. That kind of approach would have worked wonderfully here. For what it offers, I’m not sure Champions of the Continent would be appealing to people who aren’t already fans of Octopath Traveler. However, as far as mobile titles go it’s an easy recommendation and delivers an enjoyable experience that will keep fans busy until Octopath Traveler II.

Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent manages to bring a classical JRPG into the gacha realm with a convincing solution, between story and character management. Its combat system remains deep and strategic, although the distortions of this mobile genre comes into play after a while.

If you're a diehard Octopath fan and want to dive further into the lore, then this game is for you; otherwise, it's going to go completely over your head, and you'd be better off sticking with the core series on the Switch. [Issue #63 – January/February 2023, p. 24]

Champions of the Continent, despite having its amazing combat system, can't really live up to the legacy of the original game, because of a not well balanced gacha system and a progression which is faulted by the need to make you want to spend money on microtransactions.
