NBA 2K27 turns out to be a very polished installment that knows how to listen to its fans. The debut of the NBA 2K HQ app is an excellent tool for managing your MyPLAYER and your team without needing to turn on the console, despite how tricky its face scan can be. On the other hand, the integration of AI and a more refined narrative make its story mode an exciting journey, perfect to enjoy even in co-op.

NBA 2K27 keeps moving in the right direction without trying to reinvent the wheel. Instead, it focuses on polishing the core gameplay, from defensive physical contact to ProPLAY animations and player controls. When it comes to real-world fidelity, it gets pretty damn close, which is ultimately all that matters for a sports sim.

NBA 2K27 hits the goal it set out to reach from the beginning: giving defense back the weight it completely lacked last year, turning every possession into a genuine tactical battle where reading your opponent matters as much as building a good offensive play. Visual Concepts' work on pure gameplay convinces on almost every front, between a finally believable one-on-one battle, a more deliberate steal and shot-contest system, and an offense that now demands patience and buildup instead of a simple drive.

NBA 2K27 reaffirms the Visual Concepts-developed series as a benchmark in the sports video game landscape. The extensive selection of modes available, both online and offline, the depth of each one, the variety of options on offer, and the technical presentation are the main strengths of a title that, while not differing all that much from its predecessor, still introduces some welcome new features—most notably, the revamped defensive system. Some of the issues already present in previous installments remain, above all an overly prominent presence of microtransactions (not essential, but highly advantageous), a consequently divisive multiplayer component, and some animations that we found outdated. Nonetheless, this is a deep and rewarding game that demonstrates how the developers are able to listen to community feedback and take meaningful steps forward in the areas where players have highlighted shortcomings.

All in all, NBA 2K27 arrives in top form, delivering yet another rock-solid basketball simulation from Visual Concepts. The new gameplay fundamentals feel well-tuned and effectively integrated into the formula—particularly on the defensive end—while the content updates appear well-designed, despite a few missteps regarding narrative pacing. Ultimately, if you are a basketball fan looking for the best possible game to relive the exploits of legends past and present, this is the title for you.

NBA 2K27 is a resounding success when it comes to basketball simulation. The arena atmosphere, the photorealistic graphics, and—above all—the challenging defensive gameplay make the offline experience a delight.

NBA 2K27 does a great job of expanding the court-level experience, adding more realistic player interactions rather than standardized, simplified animations. A more consolidated City experience gives you the social aspect of street hoop without all the excessive running around. Finally letting men and women play together in The City is a long-awaited addition. Broadcasting and off-court presentation take up a lot of unskippable time, and the MyTeam experience lacks the same amount of immersion and story for female players as male players get. All in all, NBA 2K27 is a good entry in the long-running franchise, especially if you haven't played in a while.

NBA 2K27 delivers great on-court basketball in an excellent visual package but still has some work to do off the court. The on-court experience took a real leap… but the off-court modes need to match that energy.

NBA 2K27 takes meaningful steps toward improving the on-court experience, especially on defense, with more dynamic animations and a new cooperative experience. However, it still carries many of the franchise’s long-standing issues, including invasive microtransactions and pay-to-advance mechanics. Eras mode remains the crown jewel and is enough on its own to justify buying the game. For basketball and sports fans, it is the most complete simulator on the market, making it an easy purchase to recommend. For newcomers, it remains an accessible game, although watching a few videos beforehand certainly wouldn’t hurt.

A bit more could be done regarding model differentiation, as the models don't always fully capture the physical differences between various players. For instance, towering figures like Gobert or Wembanyama sometimes fail to fully convey the sense of imposing stature that defines them in real life. These are details that certainly don't detract from the overall verdict, but areas where we expect to see improvements in future installments.
