For those jumping into an Atlus RPG for the first time, Metaphor: ReFantazio wouldn't be my first recommendation as the world, characters and intrigue don't compare. Persona 5's psychological murder mysteries and social interactions are more interesting with gameplay that cleverly aligns with its thematic whole. Even then, the bones of a solid game are still there in Metaphor's first third. It ultimately fails to differentiate itself markedly from past Persona titles to stand above them. In this case, throwing Persona in a suit of shining armor isn't enough to convince me it's a wholly new game when its clanking boots are dancing to the same tune.

This is not only a new IP and bunch of new ideas mixed with great gameplay, excellent characters and its world. It is Atlus epic spanning 100-120 hours touching the current world problems and becoming unique in their reflection and content.

Metaphor: ReFantazio is a very good RPG with great gameplay and a superbly constructed world. But it's important to remember that it's a fairy tale - then the convention adopted won't be so glaring. Maybe I myself subconsciously fell into the trap of constantly referring to Persona? Because of this, it's a little difficult for me to talk about a groundbreaking work of art, but only about a truly unconventional game. Check it out for yourself.

Marvelous and insightful adventure with real human characters, thought provoking reflections and genuine earnesty which is rare to find in a video game. Metaphor perfects JRPG systems by making them ejoying, flexible and varied. You are never stuck in this game and is always moving forward toward both mechanichly and thematicly. I found much excitement by exploring and living out in the world of Euchronia.

One of the best games I’ve played so far and I normally don’t like JRPGs. I really hate Final Fantasy and its stupid worldbuilding, I don’t like Claire Obscure with it’s dumb story and art, but I love this. I don’t know really why, but it’s like an Ghibli movie with this special mood, that let you feel cosy and confused at the same time

Generally speaking, i enjoyed nearly everything about this game. It's not too often we get really good RPG's these days, most of them are just about little schoolgirls with god-killer powers but this is a really good one.
I just have to dock it two points because of one really glaring flaw: the story's basic concept.
I mean... this is a game that spends the entire time talking about saving the weak and the innocent and stopping people who want brute force to be the law... and how do you do it? Brute force
And what happens when you win? You immediately outsource the presidency so you can go continue being mindless imperialists.
Just saying. Its a lot of preaching for something fundamentally hypocritical.

Overall, Metaphor plays like a dream from start to finish. There’s less downtime than Persona and fewer frustrating moments than Shin Megami Tensei, with the whole game feeling like a high-stakes road trip with your best friends. The road to the throne is a tough one, but it’s one well worth walking.

Metaphor: ReFantazio is Atlus’s crowning achievement—a culmination of the best elements from their past titles and across the RPG genre. The Press Turn system, combined with the genius of the Archetype and synthesis facets of battle, creates a thrilling, strategic, and well-balanced battle system as you face off against one incredible boss after another. The impressive moments never stop, never cease, and the utterly magnificent plot is paced perfectly, with no dull moments. A cast of wonderfully written characters carries us through a magical, cohesive, and alluring fantasy world lifted to dizzying heights by a bombastic score and stunning visual design. Atlus has shown that fantasy is not dead.

Metaphor: Refantazio is the latest addition from the stable of Atlus, the developer that previously brought us award-winning series such as Shin megami tensei and Persona. Atlus is pretty much considered the hallmark for Japanese RPGs and delivers perhaps its best work with this one. Japanese RPGs like this are not for everyone, but fans have a masterpiece with Metaphor: Refantazio.

Rather than revolutionizing the Persona 5 formula, Metaphor ReFantazio refines it to offer a memorable and addictive journey that is so hard to let go of the controller. In this baroque fantasy universe, Metaphor still stands out from its predecessor by the richness of its gameplay, its original artistic direction and its more political message than ever. But above all, the new title from the Hashino-Soejima-Meguro trio looks like the culmination of the Persona formula with its mastery of rhythm and its additions of comfort of life such as its real-time combat. The result is one of the best role-playing games of 2024 that has everything to be the Persona 6 that does not say its name that we have been waiting for eight years.

Metaphor: ReFantazio is one of the most memorable RPGs we've played in years. In pursuing a new property, complete with a fantasy setting, Atlus has allowed its creativity to blossom, resulting in a brilliantly rich experience — both in terms of narrative and audiovisual design. While Metaphor takes obvious gameplay and structural cues from the developer's previous projects, it combines and refines those elements to make an epic, kingdom-hopping adventure that feels unique and deeply fulfilling.

I am genuinely obsessed with this game. I love EVERYTHING about it, the story, the worldbuilding, the characters, the dungeons, the follower bonds, the art style, the music, the entire concept of guantlet runners, the way archetypes work, and ESCPECIALLY the combat. Atlus cooked unbelievably hard with this one, and honestly call this review glazing if you want, but this is just how I feel about what is now my favorite turn based RPG of all time

The dialogue in this game is really boring and preachy. Characters talk far too much and it breaks immersion. The world building is actually pretty deep, but the dialogue and shallow characters ruin it. The characters give me a "trying too hard to say something meaningful" feeling. This game is terrible to play on Hard mode. It does a horrible job of balancing enemy encounters. You will find yourself either too low level for certain enemies, or you will find an entire dungeon to be a complete joke (even on Hard). Avoiding enemies isn't actually that easy. Oh, and spending in-game time going into a dungeon to find out you're too low level for it? Classic. Hopefully you didn't save over your game at the beginning of the dungeon. This game feels like a shallow version of Persona. It wants to be Persona, but unique, and it just fails. The best part about this game: the music. There is a good reason it won best music in the game awards 2024. Combat is pretty decent, but not well balanced or really that fun to grind levels in. The visuals are also quite stunning and make up for the lack of depth. I think the job/archetype system is not fundamentally as good as the persona system. In combat, you often find yourself to not have the proper team set up to deal with tough enemies, and it forces you to pause the game VERY OFTEN in order to swap out your jobs to have an ideal set up JUST to deal with ONE enemy. It's awful and the reason why nobody should play this game on Hard mode.

This game is basically Persona with a different skin and a lame story. If you like the Persona series, there is a good chance you're gonna like this one. If you don't, stay away.
Combat is highly repetitive and not really challenging. The story is a very linear, very generic emo-hero anime story and cut scenes and all take 80% of the playing time. If you prefer playing (rather than watch) games, this is definitely not for you.

La trama es floja, los personajes planos, la música decepcionante para estar Shoji Meguro detrás, el sistema de arquetipos es una mierda y a nivel visual y de rendimiento deja muchísimo que desear.
