Mars 2120 has the core of an entertaining, satisfying Metroidvania. Players obsessed with the genre will be able to encounter a number of exciting fights and setpieces that test all their upgrades and exploration chops. And while it doesn’t mind borrowing heavily from genre’s progenitor, a bit more polish is needed before it can come close to capturing those highs.

For fans of the genre MArs 2120 presents a serviceable adventure with some flashy powers, but it still feels very much like an early access game.

MARS 2120 has potential to become a good game and succeeds in terms of visuals and the versatile tools, but execution problems and a premature launch prevent it from, in its current state, reaching the average in a genre as prolific as the metroidvania is nowadays.

Looking at the gameplay aspect, Mars 2120 is a very well made metroidvania title. Sadly, the lack of balance and the overall feeling of ‘’soullessness’’ drags Mars 2120 down for me.
