Still my favorite JRPG are more than 20 years. Yes, the storyline is rather simplistic, but the characters are well developed and endearing, the combat style still one of the most unique I've encountered, and the enemies are challenging yet beatable with some planning.

It actually is a hidden gem among hidden gems. The unique combat system gives you a sense of exploration, the characters are memorable, acquiring spells is actually tedious but enjoyable.
I don't know why this game is not considered among the best jrpg's of the generation, it really is great.
